The Castle was really interesting. Guides helpful . Plenty to look at. Note, gardens are being remodeled so none to see. So if not visiting castle you are paying a lot just to wander a large field (with, if you're lucky some deer in the distance.

This is an excellent castle full of history, artwork and great staff. The proctors in each room are willing to talk and answer questions. The paintings and furniture are fantastic. The cafe staff are lovely and the deserts pleased everyone! Thank you so much for taking us on a trip through history.

Went for the seasonal market and stayed for the deer park and castle, both of which are simply stunning! Granted it was a perfect May Day, but walking in the grounds is peaceful and restorative. The castle is absolutely worth a visit, with some stunning rooms, beautifully presented and staffed by the most friendly and knowledgeable volunteer guides I've ever had the pleasure to talk to. Just delightful. Add to this, good and easy (free) parking, cafe and shop, and an entrance fee that doesn't leave you feeling violated, this place is HIGHLY recommended.

Booking online is available and easy to use but wasn't necessary as no queue on arrival.

There's a lot of development going on so access to some areas restricted- this should be reflected in the entry fee.

We went before lunch expecting to tour the castle, then have dinner there before walking the grounds. However, the cafe indoor seating was full and way to small for the site. As it was too cold to sit outside, we had to leave to go for lunch elsewhere, so missed out on walking around the grounds so value for money ? Definitely not.

The castle itself is quite spectacular but if the guides were busy talking to other visitors you had to wait for them to finish as there were no information sheets or boards that you normally see in venues like this. The guides we did speak with were knowledgeable and friendly.

The castle is worth visiting, but I would wait until next year while the ongoing development is finished. Perhaps the cafe facilities will be improved by then or perhaps you may be better taking a picnic.

The place promises so much, but for me, fails to deliver!

We called here for the seasonal market which in itself is a fantastic event. Whilst there we went around the castle which was stunning inside and out. It's exceptionally well maintained in all areas and one of the nicest I've been to. Guides in each room answering questions about the site and overall just a lovely place to visit. Grounds are immaculate and all of the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Entry prices are a touch expensive I would say. Around £13.50 for adults and £6.50 for children from memory. So £40 for a family of 4 for potentially a few hours out. Would likely do better if it was cheaper but probably wouldn't bother going again unless there was an event on etc .. otherwise would be a great place to picnic and have a wander around more often.

Attended for car show. Lovely grounds (did not visit the castle) staff were friendly and food options available however was not prepapred to pay 4.50 for sausage roll so went elsewhere. Lovely place with period features, good access pet and child friendly..clean toilets and walkways clear and accessible. Lovely. Xx

The castle was very nice especially inside, but does not get the 5 stars as there is limited area to have any food or drink which was the yurt hut which given the amount of people there it was cramped, the price is fair enough for the food and drinks, as well as entry fee to go around the castle and grounds which have deer roaming around it was very nice day out. I think when they get the other areas near the castle done for eating food and drink this four star rating could easily change to five in the future but these establishments will not be done until after 2024.

Superb place to visit. Amazing 13th century ( altered over the years ) castle, fully furnished with a fascinating history. A must see if you are in the area and great day out destination if within travel reach. It’ll occupy a full day if you walk the deer park also
Had a quirky, excellent, cafe in a yurt and a lovely craft shop. Guides are very welcoming and Knowledgeable. Other staff also very welcoming.
Great little 30 min video that is hugely informative and interesting.
Easy parking and thoroughly enjoyed the day there. Would be good if they opened the walled gardens to the general public visitors.
Also, really quirky, has a cricket pitch with oak tree and huge lime trees inside the boundary rope - must be som obscure local rules/laws ????
