A 70 foot high navigable Aqueduct that runs next to the railway viaduct a crosses the England and Wales border. Quieter than the neighbouring Pontcysyllte and good fun to walk across it and then through the canal tunnel. Car parking and cafe close by.

Travel between England and Wales with style, canal was finished in 1801, railway a few decades later. A great achievement for people with no power apart from horses and each other.

Beautiful walk along the aqueduct, to the last pub in England. Recommend the walk through the tunnel, before the bridge, but take a torch!

Beautiful views when travelling over the aqueduct on the narrowboat and impressive to see the viaduct above. No waiting the morning we went to cross but enough room for several boats to pull in and wait if needed.
Lovely smooth paths for walkers and cyclists over the aqueduct and easy to walk up onto the bridge into the tunnel for fantastic photos of the boats coming along and waiting to enter the tunnel.

We walked a short distance along the canal to the aquaduct and across it. We were lucky to see a canal boat emerge from the tunnel and cross the aquaduct. We walked through the tunnel and then into Chirk village and back to the canal at the aquaduct. We crossed from England to Wales and back again. Lots of useful information boards along the canal.

We came here in the evening when the sun was going down and there was hardly anyone else around. It was so beautiful.
There's a small car park at the police station about five minutes walk away which is free.

I would definitely recommend a visit to the Chirk aqueduct if you are in the area.

It is well sign posted through the village of Chirk, with car parking close by. There are serval cafes and takeaways in Chirk, so very easy to make a day of your visit.

The aqueduct itself is very photogenic, so definitely have your camera ready. There is plenty to see along the canal and the foot paths are well kept. Plenty of wildlife in this area, and plenty of barges to watch as they go by.

You may also encounter the "darkie tunnel" along your walk on the canal - so a touch is highly recommended!

Great walk along this canal path, quite high up ???? between England and Wales. Recommend to all who don't suffer from vertigo.
