Very friendly, lots of kids books. 2-year old loves checking books in and out and stamping the date, staff very patient!

The definition of a library is "A building or place having a collection of books, periodicals and sometimes films that can be borrowed by the public or members of an organisation which the library is a part"
It HAS a collection of books which can be borrowed so it is a library. A library run by volunteers from the community FOR the community. It's warm and welcoming used by a wide section of the community were it not for the volunteers who stepped in AFTER Sheffield City Council announced library closures THEN it would no longer be a library and the residents of Stannington would be worse off.

A volunteer 'library; is not a true library; a deprofessionalised service cannot match that of a professional service, just as a GP surgery that fell outside the standards required of a professional practice would not be viewed as true GP surgery. FOI responses show that using the methodology that assesses local authority run libraries, Stannington Library has had a large drop in loans since being turned over to volunteers; book loans down from 3121 in Jan 2014 to 1425 in Jan 2016, CD loans down from 148 in Jan 2014 to 17 in Jan 2016, Talking books down from 164 in Jan 2014 to 21 in Jan 2016. Volunteer centres always dispute such figures but never provide their own figures to disprove them. Volunteer groups are squatting libraries and using them for their own undemocratic and unaccountable purposes.

Our library open for browsing again - controls in place to keep everyone safe, check the new opening times from 10th May. Slowly life begins again! ????

Stannington Library has been under the care of volunteers for more than three years. Without this commitment, Stannington would not now have a library
