You can access the bridge from the North side currently (as the gate is currently open on this side and the South side is locked). Quite a pleasant view from the top. If you are coming from the south you could cross the river via Cox Green and climb up the top to get on to the bridge.

The road to reach the viaduct from Google Maps is narrow and can be very scary as you cannot find any property around. There is a point where you have to park your car and walk to the Google Maps Point. However as we walked into the path, it reached private property. Due to the limited time, we do not walk any further, and tried to get to the river to have better view. Never thought that we will see a field filled with baby breathes, and this place has the best photo area we could find to have proper pictures of the Viaduct. If you enjoy peaceful walk and want to have some fresh air, this is a great place to go.

Victoria Viaduct was built in the 1880, the construction started on the 17th March 1836 and opened August 1838, the bridge itself was built with Stone and carrying a railway track, the bridge its self is a lovely looking bridge that stands out from a long distance away

Victoria Viaduct, built 1838 to take Newcastle to London line, spans the river wear, Viaduct with presence, still looks good after all these years, well worth the walk from James Steel Park or from Cox Green , seating along the path from both directions.

Great walk on a nice day, some parts are hard to manage due to mud, have to be able to put up with the rough surfaces.

FENCED HERITAGE SITES NEED TO STOP, WAS A BRILLIANT BRIDGE AND NOW LOOK WHAT THEY DO TO OUR HISTORY FOR RAILROADS!!!!
