Very cool and under-the-radar place to go and see if you're in the area, very down-home with mostly volunteers working the grounds and tour information. Great for photo opportunities and hanging about. Multiple gardens about and other things to see.

Picturesque views throughout. The architecture is phenomenal, and the surrounding gardens and woodland are excellent. There’s also a fairly large outdoor area for young children to play. It is however slightly on the pricier side at £24 per person but there is 1000 acres of footprint to explore so this can easily be a full day out.

Absolutely lovely day out, beautiful gardens,a huge play-area for big and little kids,really nice coffee shops if a bit pricey for me.
Paid for a private tour of the house wow it was outstanding and I was overwhelmed by the beauty,furniture and stories our guide told us about.
????% worth a visit and would visit again in a heartbeat

Thought it was quite expensive compared to say Blenheim where you get free entry for a year on your ticket. Grounds were lovely to wander and fully open. You only see a small part of the house which has no information boards in the rooms but there is an app link for your phone. Staff lovely. Food not over priced which is good to see.

Stunning estate! Being from the U.S., we don’t have anything so grand—so you can safely ignore reviews that say it’s not as fancy or fabulous as another castle in England. If you’re a foreigner, you’ll find it amazing nonetheless!

The rooms available to tour are beautiful. There were friendly guides in each area to share a little bit more detail—helpful if you’re not using the audio guide. In addition to touring a portion of the home, you can also walk around the gardens and grounds. To get the most out your visit, I’d definitely recommend staying for the day.

If you’re coming from York like us, you can take the Transdev Castle Line bus. We caught it at York Station Avenue (stop RM), which is across the way from The Grand York hotel. It goes directly to the Castle car park (parking lot) and will return there a couple times throughout the day (check the current schedule though). So easy!

A great day out with lots of facilities. Free car park. Varied food options. We needed some breakfast/brunch upon arrival and the Courtyard Cafe is the cafe of choice (on your left as you enter for this) I left a separate 5 star review on that experience. The cafe in the house did not offer breakfast items other than scones. Then the Boathouse cafe apparently offers more fast food offerings but this was not confirmed by us. We went through the house and enjoyed the impressive original entry way under the dome. We also saw the playground which is fantastic for kids. We walked around the reservoir, through the woods, around the lake, through the gardens. We arrived at the Temple of 4 Winds but you could not enter the building. From here you can see the mausoleum but cannot get to this as part of your entry to Castle Howard - shame. I enjoyed some of the Greek statues and the Atlas fountain. All in all, a lovely setting, interesting history and a worthwhile visit for the cost.

Great day out. We stayed at the castle Howard lakeside holiday park & got 2 for 1 entry which was brilliant. Had lunch at one of the many cafes which was lovely. Had ice-cream at the boat house - banoffee was amazing! The kids play area was brilliant and there was so much to explore and see. It wasn't very busy which was nice. The walled gardens were amazing & I would come to visit again.

Absolutely loved camping here. I didn't go into the main building because I didn't have enough time but the grounds are beautiful and full of old statues depicting scenes from greek mythology. The cafe is pretty expensive for the portion size but was tasty. I'd highly recommend decent walking boots if you walk around the site outside of the grounds (to the pyramid, mausoleum, etc) because it's quite muddy and there are jagged pebbles covering most of the pathways.

I would definitely like to return :)

Oh and if you're walking from Malton the last stretch of road has no path so you'll be on the road. This road is quite blind so make sure it's well lit or take torches and high Vis clothing. There is actually a very long path off the man road opposite an office park. I'd go that way next time.
