A great park for all the family. Nice walks, small park for kids. Mini railway (only £2 per person) Picnic areas, BBQ areas. Restaurant. Ice cream vans toilets and nature trail walks around the park. Unfortunately the car park is not free considering there is so much free space here. I've taken a photo of the restaurant menu. Hope it helps. Well worth a visit.

This is a large man made lake on the outskirts of Wakefield with a coarse hard gravel foot path all around the periphery. Entry is free but onsite parking is paid. The gravel path is essentially level except for a short distance were wheel chair users may have some difficulty. Its great for walking, jogging and cycling away from traffic. The lake offers some water sports with gear that can be hired on site. A miniature working train is fun for the youger generation. An onsite restaurant provides hot, cold and alcoholic drinks as well as hot and cold foods. There is also a meeting room and toilets for all visitors. Parking is paid for via an online link available from the parking machines. There is plenty of grass verge for play and picnics all around the lake.

Really nice place for a walk around the lake. Well maintained and wide paths make this accessible for everyone. There is a small gauge railway for children. Also places where you can have a bbq.

There are small exercise areas, a large kids playground and a cafe. There is usually an ice cream van around as well.

Peaceful place even if it can be a little busy when the weather is nice.

Really dirty place. All bins were overflowing. Piles of rubbish dumped in various places. Litter floating in the water.
Dead bird in the water.
Signage up for algae issue and bird flu detected.
Loads of people having disposable BBQ's scorching the grass.
Parking rules are not clear. You have to pay by phone as all machines are out of use but signage is not sufficient to tell you this.
Such a shame as this could be a lovely place if people took their litter home when the bins are full.

Lovely place I went with my family, including 3 grandchildren, we took a picnic... on the plus side, the weather was amazing on the day!

Nice place for a walk though there are many places the dog has to be on a lead. Nice cafe and playground and usually an ice cream van or two if it’s warm. Access to Sandal castle is also a good feature. The miniature steam railway is great when it is running as well. Car park fills quickly on a nice day. The activities on the lake look fun and the kids have enjoyed it when visiting with cubs and scouts.

Been today for the dragon boat race! Fantastic day, the volunteers were amazing, the helmsman on the boats were fantastic!! An absolutely brilliant day!!!!

I had mixed feelings on this park... we had a leisurely walk round, which was nice... and the kids had good fun on the playground... but I can't help but think it could have all been a little better.

I will try to explain... I guess the fact that there was a small amount of drizzle didn't help even though it was pretty warm in the afternoon. The miniature railway decided not to open due to the early weather situation. Car park, I felt should have been free or nominal amount. Cafe had long waits. Ice cream van was expensive (or at least far more expensive than I expected it to be). Toilet facilities were fairly small considering size of park. Then there was the doggy do do's... not sure why some owners fail to pick up after their dog but either way at least one of my children manage to run or walk in to it...

So all in all, I struggled to rate it high, but certainly not terrible (despite my experience!)
