MBEACHA'S Residents

Built in the 1800,s and a fairly good trek for even me to reach BUT so worth it, this bridge is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING on every level.
It is a vast expanse of staggered brickwork sprawling right out Into the river Leven with pillar after pillar after pillar and still in use by the rail network.
All around it lies evidence of what was used to actually build the brigde, from rocky formations to the remains of a"Gatehouse " but BEWARE. The tide here is dangerous and the bridge is spanned across Sands that are quickly perished and in places very wet.

Directions : Park near Ulverston canal than proceed down it. At the bottom is the option to go right (for the pub) straight down (for the "pier") or left... Which is where you want to head.
Just past the last house step onto the beach and walk for maybe 2 minutes and then on the left is a little path taking you onto a national trust lane. Follow the lane RIGHT AROUND - DON'T be tempted to head across the grass, it is full of channels and bogs- till eventually you come to a Cement slope. Here you should carefully go up and you will find a very narrow, but with care, easy to walk on path way.
It is worth noting at this point you are running parallel with the train line and the same height tho are separated by fencing.
There are one or two juniper bushes to navigate around and once at the furthest point you can easily get down onto the grass and rocks, which is where keeping left you will find this bridge.

Again, the tide here is dangerous and comes in very fast occasionally on the Arnside boar (which is a sideways, shallow tsunami type tide) but still dangerous so be aware and pay attention. Quick sand can also be present in places on these sands.
The tide coming in can be watched from the grassy banks and rocks and this is also a lovely place for a picnic or even a spot of fishing or simply to see the swans that come here waiting for the tide to come in.
A real unnoticed jewel in the crown set in the most beatiful of places.
