What an interesting, magical place! Yes, the Castle proper is undergoing restoration, and yes, castles are cold and drafty and damp, however the old kitchen area has been turned into an air BNB with a kitchen, bedrooms and a really cool bathroom! Luckily giant, fluffy, warm blankets are provided on each bed so it feels like you're snuggling under a giant pillow of mashed potatoes!!! We didn't get cold at all as we slept. I'd recommend getting firewood for the living room, though!

Castle is being renovated so a lot of crappie lying outside plus the stonework needs a clean,nice location

Balintore sits in a lofty position with extensive views to the south; it is undergoing restoration after many years of ongoing decay. Some rooms have been refurbished but is the unrestored rooms which are the most telling. The work still to be undertaken is considerable yet the owners commendable enthusiasm may yet prove to be the saving of this old Angus gem.

Unique location to stay. The old storage and kitchen wing are nicely renovated into a guest accommodation, with 3 bedrooms. If you have the chance, visit to the rest of the castle is a great experience. The owner is very friendly and will passionately tell you about the progress of the restoration.

Lovely castle, the restored bits are amazing, and the views are stunning. We'll worth a visit and cany wait to see it finished. The restored bit are now am amazing Airbnb ????

We had an amazing stay here—a really great experience. The owner’s description is exactly right: not a place for people wanting a 5* hotel, but exciting for anyone wanting a unique experience.

The castle is still undergoing renovations, and we stayed in the kitchen wing. The original architect knew his stuff, and the wing was designed to be cool. Luckily the modern under floor heating works well, and a fire in the evening was very welcome.

The castle’s present owner was very friendly and helpful. The tour of the main castle was fascinating. His enthusiasm was contagious.

There are some good places locally to eat. We liked Armstrongs and The Wee Bear Cafe.

The castle is under going renovation the exterior doesn't appear to have started , blocked windows, no windows, cracks etc, so a little like a building site, with a plastic fall pipe in the enclosed square, not in keeping.
My expectations were high in view of the price tag attached to the accommodation.
Some rooms in the interior have been addressed, sadly I found the quality of the decor and furnishings lacking, the painting is not professionally finished, colours wander into each other. Modern items (freezers, washers microwaves etc) all on display spoiling the original features. There are some wonderful features retained, the fireplaces, sinks and bathroom furniture.
It will take years to restore to its original glory.

Wonderful experience! David has a wonderful passion for this piece of history and it shows. So grateful to stay and help with what I could for a couple days.
