We didn't get to see inside because a residential was going on, but even so five stars is deserved for location, friendliness of staff and above all THE POND. So many newts. Newts like you've never seen before! It was such a treat, the water was so clear and they were so cute! Will definitely be coming back. Perfect place for a summers day picnic!

Now a Youth Hostel although often also open to visitors. Not the biggest of castle, but impressive gatehouse. Lovely setting.

Beautiful place and so well kept. Went as a school trip with year 8 and 9s. Clean facilities, friendly and accommodating staff, especially Kizzy! Food delicious, best I’ve had as a teacher on a school trip. Showers great, nice and powerful, bathroom facilities meticulously clean.

The castle is a Grade I listed ancient monument, a rich piece of history and an inspiring location. Be transported back in time to Medieval world of King John and the Magna Carta within this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The castle is over 800 years old, with bags of character and remarkably well-preserved

A fantastic youth hostel to stay at - especially if you're exploring the local history!

I can't speak of st braivels as a yha because we were there for a private function weekend. The rooms are one of a kind as you would expect castle like. The beds are very comfortable the showers and toilets clean and modern. This yha is steeped in history and is haunted, so keep an eye out for that unexpected visitor. There is a pub less than a stones throw down the road and a very interesting church opposite. I have no doubt that any one would enjoy a stay here.

A wonderful building, set in a beautiful village. In use throughout the year as a YHA hostel, and open to the public from April to September. Well worth a visit.

A nice little hidden gem in a beautiful village. We had a look one Sunday while there was a local event taking place, so we weren't sure what parts of the castle we could see or couldn't, hence why we've only given 4 stars for now. It's worth a look if you're in the area or near by visiting Chepstow.
