Amazing roast dinner today and such lovely friendly staff. Outside seating area is great too. Made my day when they came around offering extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds too! What a bonus ????

We chose the Chequers for an evening meal to celebrate after our register office wedding ceremony with a small group of friends. From the first contact the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. We were given a private area to eat in. We were asked if we wanted to decorate the area - in fact we were too tied up with other arrangements to do this, and when we arrived we found that the staff had done this for us, including personalised messages. We were really touched by this. The food and service were excellent, and good value for money. Particular thanks to Charlotte and Laura who were our main contacts.

Great location, 5mins walk from the back entrance to horse shoe lake so perfect place to finish off a nice walk. Lovely and comfortable outside seating overlooking a local cricket ground. With blankets and cushions offered for extra warm and comfort. Lovely, welcoming and friendly staff. The food is absolutely delicious and there's a great choice of specials. We had the Hake which tasted so fresh and full of flavours. The Korean style potatoes were a complete delight to taste and explore and the soup to start was mouth watering. The staff really went beyond the call of duty to make our experience amazing, we wete their to celebrate me passing my degree and it was the perfect place to it. The wine was delicious and the beer range was varied. Nothing like a refreshing hogs back tea after a long walk. The prices were reasonable and even though there's a road close you hardly notice its existence, I highly recommend it.

Great food and atmosphere. There was a singer outside on night we were in and our food was lovely.

Had the amazing afternoon, first time visiting. The whole experience was amazing great selection of beers, fantastic food with great selection to choose from. Wonderful glass of port recommended to us to complement the cheese board. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon we will definitely be back.

Over priced and slightly strange service, we had a large group but only mains and it took a while, whilst food was good, the presentation did not match the price and for an £18 Special burger , it looked not very special at all, plonked on a plate with small portion of chips and no side or garnish. Not their fault but outdoor covered space was cold due to wind direction so had to move inside , items that were not available on the menu weren’t told to us until time of ordering which we had to ask to place food orders , normally fine but with a number of children it’s usually a little better to get the food sorted
I’d not hurry back for a meal again, have had good small plates there before but today was a disappointing

The service was awful, the food took a very long time and the staff kept avoiding eye contact, if we wanted to get a drink or condiments we had to get up and find a member of staff. After waiting an hour for dessert, we gave up and cancelled the order. No apology from the staff!! The food was alright but over priced for what it was we spent £182 and will not go back ever again after such poor service. Much better places to go in the area.
