Absolutely phenomenal day out. Staff were amazing and helpful throughout our visit, and despite being a historic building and grounds, it was highly accessible for us.

We were lucky to visit on a dog friendly weekend, which was amazing. And I can assure you, dog friendly meant exactly that. My pup was treated like a VIP.

There are lifts throughout, and plenty of staff present to help guide you to access points. Tidbits of information are presented at every opportunity and it was a great way to spend the day.

We did the walls walk. £10 each for concessions. Perhaps a little bit pricey for what you get. Good audio guide included but the audio guide markers are tiny and a quest in themselves. Spectacular view from the top of the tower.

Really lovely experience, nice little gift shop. Grounds well kept and didn't see any litter at all. Did the wall walk which was a reasonable price for £11 per person with the audio tour. I'd say without the audio tour, it's not worth £11 as you can quickly walk it. Would be good if they had different price points for just walking and with the audio tour as I'd like to do it again but don't need the tour again.

Toilets could be maintained more frequently, there was toilet paper all over the place including the sink and the bin was full and overflowing

Other than that, had a very nice time

Wonderful tour of the castle, a very beautiful and well-kept garden, the magnificent walk on the high walls made it possible to see the castle from another angle and see the beautiful landscapes around it, like the beautiful cathedral. I just thought the student discount was unattractive, just a pound.

Such an interesting and impressive place. I paid £15 for a day ticket including a grounds tour, entrance to the old prison, and a walk round the castle walls with audio guide. It was worth the money. The magna carta isn't there at the moment (but you can always see the forest charters), so check before you visit. All the staff were so helpful, knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. I spent 3 hours there, but I would happily have spent another couple of hours. You can also stroll around the grounds for free.

A good 3 hours easily spent. The open courtyard is free to peruse and use. Payment must be made to walk around the top of the wall and enter the prison. The views from the wall are great, a chair user would be unable to get all the way around, maybe just 1/6 of the walk. There is a lift to the top of the wall.
The prison was enjoyable. Chair users can access all 3 floors.
There are info plaques all round the wall and in the prisons.
An enjoyable time out and worth the money.

Really good family day out. The prison was really interesting and had loads of interactive, traditional activities for children in some of the cells. The castle walk can last an hour if you take your time and has fantastic views. The Peak District could just about be seen with binoculars. The climb up the tower is tricky via a narrow spiral staircase and is a bit nerve wracking once at the top. Worth it for the view though. Some of the wall was accessible for wheelchairs, pushchairs. Cafe looked nice but pricey, we opted to go round the corner to a sit in Curtis bakery. Good value for money overall.
Best hint....go on a Sunday, the street parking within 10min walk is free so save yourself £9!!

Parking can be a bit of a nightmare. The NCP car parks are well over charging per hour. You'll have to find one further away. If it's at the bottom of the hill, then it will really be a hard walk/climb to the castle. The classic car event was brilliant. All sorts of cars there. Modern classics, contemporary classics and nearly 100 year old cars. There is a cafe and accessible toilets on site. There are also ones just outside the walls for 20p
