Secluded, beautiful, atmospheric, peaceful and historical. This lovely little church - a replacement built because the original was flooded in the reservoir waters below - is well worth a little detour from a trip around the lakes. Though old and faded the display boards yield just enough information to tell a story. Whilst cold and ill-lit the church provides a well-earned shelter for biting autumnal winds and drizzle. If you don't at first succeed with the obstinate gates, persevere because they're not locked.

Beautiful little chaple with amazing view over the reservoir. Great that its open to the public, simple and tranquil place of peace.

Nantgwyllt Church is placed in such a wonderful spot overlooking the reservoir. It was built here to replace the original church which was flooded to create the reservoir. Part of the Gwastedyn Parish now, the Church was originally a 'Chapel of Ease' for the old Parish of Cwmdauddwr.

We stumbled across this quaint and marvellous little church on our recent visit to Elan Valley. It’s a beautiful and picturesque church, steeped in history and so interesting in general (we are so lucky to still have historical buildings like this). We were lucky enough to be greeted by reverend Lance Sharpe (who was there as he preparing for an event with help from his congregation), he is kind, welcoming and all to happy to answer questions you may have. This church is a must whilst visiting Elan Valley, so lovely ????

Nantgwyllt Church was built in the early 20th century by the Birmingham Corporation to replace the original, older church flooded by the construction of the Elan Valley dams.
A peaceful little church sat above the lake, Nantgwyllt Church has no specific dedication. Early in its life it was mostly used by the men building the dams, small plaques and monuments can be found inside to commemorate some of these men.
The small pentagonal apse features a single stained glass window, Jesus holding a lamb. Whilst a great work of art, this window is entirely in keeping with the sheep farming landscape.
The original Nantgwyllt Church was visited by the famous poet Percy Shelsley in 1812, while he lived in the area for a short while.

a really stunning church, still using oil lamps. open every day and services first Sunday in month April to September. really special inside.
