The museum was amazing. I enjoyed the large collection of Egyptian artifacts and the enormous natural history exhibits. Then to experience the small (but fascinating) live animals that included a chameleon who was very inquisitive topped off the experience. I arrived at opening at 10am and had about 30 minutes before it became extremely busy.

Great museum with lots of great galleries on various topics. Clear that they are trying to improve the representation of different backgrounds in their museum. Only downside is the display of the dead human bodies (in the mummy section) being on display; this seems incredibly disrespectful to me.

Entrance is free (including for the Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition) but a donation is encouraged. The new extension is pretty good and the highlight, the mummies exhibition, is really nice and fascinating; you do have to book for tickets to enter the mummies exhibition but you can do so at the museum. However, you may want to book in advance if you think that it's going to be busy (i.e. weekend).

The new South Asia Gallery and Chinese Culture Gallery are also welcomed additions to the recently refurbished museum. There's certainly more to see now. The Museum Shop has some really nice things on sale (including items for kids). The cafe is okay but I would like to see more food options (they do have a small area outside to sit if the weather is good).

Overall, this is easily a nice day out for individuals, groups or families. Do plan ahead if you're visiting during peak periods.

The Museum makes for a decent day trip. The entry is free but I recommend bringing your own food and or drink because the Museum Cafe is overprice. If you want to support the Museum I personally think the gift shop, guide book and direct donation is the best way. Make sure to check out the Golden Mummy Exhibit. I also found the display of human remains unethical, the people did not consent to be on display in death.

I took my young nephew here last month and he seemed to enjoy himself and wanted me to take him again.
There are a number of different exhibitions that would appeal to all people. The main reason I decided to take my nephew here was because of the dinosaurs and fossils.

The staff here are so friendly and the fact you can see staff working with the living animals was great.

My nephew's favourite exhibition was the frogs they had (he didn't want to leave).

They had an exhibition where tickets had to be booked which was a shame but understandable.

The building caters for all, having disabled access and also gender neutral toilets and gender assigned bathrooms.

The gift shop was a bit on the pricey side but the products are great quality so in a way justifies the pricing.

All in all the "dinosaur museum", as my nephew calls it, is a must see if you have a few hours free or are looking for something to do with children during the holidays, that will not cost anything, unless you make a donation to the museum but this isn't mandatory.

The Manchester museum is an amazing experience that I highly recommend for all ages. Me and my husband visited the new/refurbished Egypt exhibition first and it was brilliant. It's free to enter but you need to book tickets. Booking the free tickets were very easy to do and the staff were very helpful. There's two reasonably priced cafes with a selection of cake and sandwiches and a seating area for people to bring your own food. Plenty of parking in the area and bus links are amazing.
The building is easy to find and the grounds were beautiful.
They handed out maps and the volunteers were so friendly and helpful!
We spent 3 hours exploring.
Lovely gift shop on-site.

The only thing that let it down was there was nothing to help visually impaired people.

Really enjoyable look around, especially the collection of hominid skulls which rested to a podcast I’ve been listening too. That said it’s quite small and not as good as the Ulster museum which I mooched around a few weeks back. That just seems a little bit more balanced and complete in its exhibits. Anyway, worth a look. Unusually it’s got quite a small gift shop. That’s not a bad thing either mind.

We had a really quick look round at the end of the university open day tour and I was impressed by what was here and would definitely want to come back when we had more time. Loved the living exhibits on the top floor showing some wonderful frogs and lizards. The Egyptian floor was really interesting and also the nature floor showing many animal skeletons and taxidermy. I missed going to the dino room but husband grabbed a photo of the t-rex skeleton! Lovely shop in the museum too. Well worth a visit.
