We did a six mile walk round Donington today and had booked for Sunday Lunch at the pub. Wish we hadn’t bothered. The dishes did not resemble a Sunday lunch at all, two main courses took best part of 40 minutes to arrive, and when they did, well if we weren’t starving we would have got up and walked out. One lad behind the bar seemed to be doing his best, rest of the staff were too busy standing about chatting and couldn’t be bothered. Given how good some of the other reviews are, something drastic must have happened here, because there is no way I would go back.

Excellent pub in the Lincolnshire Wolds, there's plenty of parking, good selection of drinks and food (including vegetarian options).

Service was quick, and the food was good.

I would visit again if in the area.

Friendly place, rooms are better than they look outside. Pub has various areas, some very old and a large garden. Food was very good and reasonably priced.

Lovely home made food, delicious desserts too. We were a party of four and all ordered different food: all was perfect. We were given a warm welcome and enjoyed our chat with you. Lovely place to stop for a coffee too after or midway through a walk (which we also did).

Just come home from a 3 night stay at the Black Horse with some friends for a shooting trip.
Our hosts, Victoria & Adam made us very welcome. The rooms were very clean & functional with good showers and plenty of hot water.
The pub is very traditional with a great selection of beers, wines & spirits. Adam, who is not only the owner but also head chef who produced some amazing home cooked stylish food of good proportions.
Highly recommended.

Didn't stay over, but can recommend the food service and a good selection of beers/ ciders, great quiz night last Sunday of the month

Ate Sunday lunch. Marvellous.
Good beer, good choice of gins.
Friendly, attentive, skilled staff.
Didn't stay overnight but may do so in future.
