Beautiful view of river Thames from Putney Bridge.

Since the second half of the 19th century, Putney has been a significant centre for rowing.

The bridge was the starting point for The Boat race from 1845 until the new iron aqueduct was built just upstream in 1856, after which this became the starting point.

The competitors are currently 32 men of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge with two crews of first and second eights. Women's eights competed in an equivalent race for the first time in 2015, having since 1927 competed a shorter varsity race in Henley also in the early spring.

Evocative, especially at the onset of sunset with the bridge lighting dappling on the Thames.
One of the original triumvirate of Thames bridges attributed to Joseph Bazalgette, all remarkably still surviving.
A low, streamlined profile in stone and granite completed in 1886 (widened 1933) easily mistaken for a mid/late 20th.Century construction.
Distinctive iron columns bearing 3 lanterns mounted along the plain parapet.
Understated, elegant and associated with sculling and rowing.

It's a nice bridge for pedestrians but terrible for cars. This bridge is always busy with heavy traffic in both directions and the whole area is very congested. This could be due to the closure of Hammersmith Bridge. The pollution around here must be high and at dangerous levels. Avoid if you drive a car.

A place where we can enjoy watching sailing boats and lots of people strolling

Just outside on the riverside of Fullham Palace Garden, it's this place with nice views. There are a few benches to sit down and bask in the shade of several trees. You can see beautiful flowers and a memorial to those british soldiers who helped during spanish revolution resistance.
