From checking at reception through evening drinks and breakfast. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive.
Our room was huge, an L shape with the bathroom in the L. It had views up two streets which might have been an issue but it was quiet at night except a couple of times when two blokes were talking loudly to each other (maybe staff members as they did not seem to be going anywhere).
Breakfast was the largest we have had so far on tour and the mini hash browns. Deep fried, were novel.
The location was handy, only a few hundred meters over the river from the railway station and pretty much on the swcp.

Lovely characterful building which is a great location in the middle of Barnstaple. The staff are brilliant and really attentive without being too much. Would definitely come back again!

Good first impression on arrival. Staff very helpful. Room well laid out and not over cluttered with furniture. Bed too soft but would be comfortable for those who like that. Good lighting in room as so many hotels seems to get this so wrong. View not so good but you are in the middle of a town centre so was to be expected. Central heating not on all the time and not able to regulate as thermostat has been removed. Got cold at times. A short level walk to the bus station which is great for those wanting to be car-free. Rail station equally a short bus hop to bus station. Would stay again but in the warmer months.

Mother’s Day.

On arriving to our table booking we were informed to the utter dismay of my son that he had booked the wrong venue for dinner ????????u200d♀️ however the lovely lady who was serving (ocean) took everything in her stride and found us a table to prevent his embarrassment and a Mother’s Day meal in spoons. (Not that there’s anything against spoons)
Not only that she was extremely efficient making sure that everyone in the very booked restaurant was happy and cleaned at a speed that was fast but unintrusive.
It’s refreshing to see someone with excellent customer service and a beaming smile throughout being put though their paces.
Thank you ocean for saving the day and for the excellent care you showed everyone

Second time here. Location cannot be beat, center of town. Bed comfortable, room clean, shower is great. They do shutdown the radiators at night but so does every other hotel in the area i stayed out. Did not partake of food as i wanted to experience the many places close by. But this is my go to for staying in Barnstaple for sur.

Did not stay at hotel but ate next door in there bar restaurant the bank. Good food and polite efficient staff, all in oak panelled room with very opulent decor. Well worth a visit.

Hotel is better than it’s three star rating. Bed comfortable. Bathroom new. Clearly has befitted from major investment and refurbishment. Staff all super helpful and clearly happy to be working there.
Loved the wonky floors and doors. Only two criticisms. Need an inner door or something to stop local kids using as a public toilet. The constant in and outs made the lounge bar area cold. The clue for management is when guests are sitting in coats!
Second is really picky but was annoying. There were no sockets available near the bed (phone/ I pad charging)
Neither of these issues spoiled a good experience created in the main by excellent friendly staff.

The food here is of an alright standard, not as good as some of the other hotels in the area or even within the hotel group,but certainly not bad. The dessert options especially were nice, just nothing outstandly special.
