Simon has fresh casks delivered each week to guarantee a great fresh pint. Mainly local breweries such as Red Rock Brewery ???? Great Micropub and great company!

Beer Matters has a lovely atmosphere and great feel about it. There is always an excellent choice of Real Ale that is looked after exceptionally well and a very good selection of wine, bottled beer and lager too.
The owners Simon and Alison are always friendly and make us feel very welcome.
Overall its a great little proper boozer, which has now become my regular local even if it is 1.5 miles away from where I live.

If you want poor quality beer and lager, loud music, gambling machines and yobbish behaviour then this place is not for you. However if you want to somewhere that sells good quality local beers, a place you can have a great conversations often with people you have never met then this is defiantly the place to go. On the occasions I have been the hosts Simon and Alison have been incredibly chatty and friendly. I have met some lovely characters who its been a real pleasure to sit and chat to. This is my definite go to place in Barnstaple for a pint and a chat. Pay it a visit you wont be disappointed..

Update: will be revisiting over NewYear Weekend. What a find. Love microbreweries. Wish there was more of them across Devon. A place to try out different real beers and be able to join in the conversation without being drowned out by plastic music and slot machines. A warm welcome for strangers here.

Popped in a few weeks ago to see Down-Strum Robbie playing his gig. Great afternoon with fab atmosphere, brilliant beer and entertainment from the ever engaging Robbie.

Top bar - definitely worth a visit.

My brother and I had a very pleasant evening chatting with the landlords and other customers whilst enjoying a few lovely presented and conditioned ales.
Definitely worth a visit if that's your bag.
We will be back soon.
