Great Viewpoint, with quite a steep walk from Ballater town to the top through Oak, Silver Birch and Fir woodlands. There are clearly signed foot paths, one that circuits the hill about half way up, and two paths that lead to the viewpoint at the top. Dramatic views over Ballater, the Dee Valley and surrounding mountains. There's a welcome bench at the top, with an information board and viewpoint indicator that identifies the individual mountains in the distance.
Well worth the effort to reach it. Just take time and pace your ascent.

Lovely place to hike on a sunny day. Went right up to the top and didn’t even fall down. Jogging here would make you healthy. People are very friendly, i don’t know whether it is because they are high or just enjoying the nature, either way I cant complain about it. Beautiful place.

Lovely hike, not crowded by tourists at all. The forest is wild but the path is clear and well preserved, however somehow demanding.

We walked up the hill for a bit of exercise. It was more strenuous than anticipated, but not difficult. Just give yourself a bit of time. The views are well worth the effort!

This is a decent walk, but not for the faint hearted. We started from the hilton timeshare and it was still quite a climb. I expect the climb up from Ballater would be even harder.Certainly need to be very able bodied. A lot of undulations and fallen trees. We went up after it had been quite dry and was still quite precarious and slippy. The tree roots were quite slippy. Some parts near the pass of Ballater were quite steep below. The view over Ballater was quite nice. It was a clear day and we could see quite a way. We were up and down in about 2 hours.

A beautiful place to visit, be prepared it's quite a steep climb up and down but you'll feel great when you get to the top!

We are owners at Hilton Craigendarroch and holidayed in the area for 10+ years. A number of years ago, pre kids, we walked round the hill. Kids are now older so thought we would try the walk round again. We were unsure of the way at one crossing of walkways and decided to follow orange arrows on the ground which led us to the summit of the hill. It gave us amazing views of Ballater and surrounding hills as you will see and some info boards to read. We would highly recommend it with some solid foorwear.
