We could not have chosen a better school for our son. General problems will always be there (and everywhere) but we are very happy overall.
Happy son, happy parents!

Horrible Assessment Experience.

1st - They asked us to come on a certain date and time. Which is around 2PM. This is usually nap time for my 2 year old. Ask if they have different availability they said No. We came for 1st assessment, and waited for more than an hour only to be told that there is a mistake from their side and no one is available to assess my child.
2nd - We were asked to reschedule which we already did, same time 2PM. My Kid is already tired from Nursery, was asked to go with the Teacher but my kid doesn't want to go on his own (which I think is normal for his age) he doesn't know who he is going with. The comment from the teacher was, he was too clingy to me. He was playing on his own. He was asked few questions, in the end we were told that he needs 2nd assessment.
3rd visit second assessment - same thing we were only there for like 5 mins. We were told they want to visit his current nursery to see how he behaves when in a Calm environment.
After that, no one reached out to us. No update from anyone in this school. very disorganized and unpleasant experience for school that was rated Outstanding.

Not recommended at all.

Went to a different School, during the assessment again my son does not want to go inside the room on his own but the teacher understood and said it is totally normal, which I really appreciate.

Completely different experience compared to Horizon. Definitely happy with the current school.

Our younger one attended a year of Primary. It was a nightmare for her. She kept getting sick over and over. You might be thinking: "well, younger children do tend to fall sick frequently..."

Define "frequently" then: our daughter was ill at a rate of every every 2-3 weeks. Her attendance was less than 30%. We subjected her to all kinds of medical tests to get an answer.

We only realised towards the end of the year what was the source: stress and fear.
Of what: the teacher's assistant.

The TA was scaring the kids, And our daughter was extra sensitive (she would hide her food and try to eat privately to avoid comments or eyes from the Teachers assistant about the healthiness of snacks, she would be super stressed about giving homework on time, she would be very self conscious about her appearance and avoid getting told off about her uniform, her work, etc.) We heard similar recounts from other parents then: the TA would throw a fit at the kids with rude statements, shout at them, tell them off, etc.

Keep in mind: we are talking about 5 year olds. I'm not a teacher or an expert but I've been schooled in the UAE and i have another daughter who attended another school. You do NOT shout and instigate fear and cause stress in younger children.

At first we thought our daughter was being particular because it was in her nature... but it turned out she was absolutely TERRIFIED.

Our mistake was not reaching the conclusion until the end of the year when other parents shared similar concerns. We raised it to the school officially and to KHDA thereafter.

Everyone assured that the school has "taken measures". Apparently someone else raised it too but i cannot conclusively say that...and neither can the school.
I guess we should say thank you and take their word for it.

Meanwhile, we moved our daughter to another school. She is MUCH happier now and her attendance is well over 80%.

Our experience may not reflect everyones. I'm sure there are good points and bad points everywhere but our experience was disheartening especially when we put our daughter through various medical tests that kept coming back as normal. At the end it became a cycle of stress and depression that made her more susceptible to frequent infections. Of course there is no way for us to clinically prove this....not without subjecting her to further counselling, psychological investigations and further immunological tests.

This wasn't the Happiest school for our child. We can't comment about content, curriculum or extra activities because our child was simply unwell most of the time. She missed, practically, a year of school life.

Am writing this review about this school, because they claim to be inclusive! But when 1 my kids didn’t have a fair assessment, it was painful to watch it from outside! ! And when we got rejected! I wanted to know the reasons why they came to that conclusion! (Because I had to pay for assessment fee for both of my kids) but they wouldn’t even answer! They just ignored my emailsss Which I find quite rude to be honest! Anyway I’m however glad we weren’t accepted, because my kids were accepted in EMirates International School jumeirah and we are happy there!

Both of my children love Horizon English School. My son has made wonderful improvements, not only academically but also with his confidence. My daughter has moved up a grade level. She loves the challenges she gets from the school.

We have been very pleased with our experience with Horizon English School. We love the strong Horizon community and believe our children have benefited immensely from the education they’ve received here. We love the staff and the personal relationships they have developed with our children and our family as a whole.

I am delighted to hear stories about the fun activities which my children share after a day at Horizon English School. I love seeing the videos showing the children doing their physical activities in a safe and protected environment. I feel that it is so important for their mental stimulation and Horizon English School is doing a great job at it.
