Lismore is a short trip from Oban, and a great safe place to walk. The Visitor centre does home cooked snacks and drinks. One of the many monastic sites in the western isles, there is plenty of history to be seen here. Buy a ticket in advance or pay on the boat, and cycle or walk the island (cars have to be booked). A second ferry runs from Port Appin on a short run to Lismore, but I like the 40 min scenic ride on the Oban ferry.

Gets you from point A to point B without dying in the watery abyss so that's nice.

No frills ferry service but for what it is it does it very well. An absolute lifeline to folk living on the islands too.

Lovely trip over on ferry but if you are looking for a cafe on shore you will have to walk a mile plus..????
