Really great place, would definitely recommend a visit. Free entry and lots to see and do. Exhibits are well laid out with good descriptions, and a walk along the canal adds to the experience. Our favourite part were the living rooms and kitchens done up in the style of the time, from the 1980's back to the late 19th century. Brought back a lot of memories of our own living room and that of our grandparents! The attention to detail in the rooms really brought it to life.

Well worth a visit and I would definitely go again if I'm ever in the area.

Family day out. Free entry.
Step back in time and see how the mining community lived and worked. If your brave enough go down the mine however it is best to book.
See houses from the late 19th century to 1980's. Visit the sweet shop and don't forget the great playback with disabled swings.
The small gift shop is well stocked and reasonably..

The new building was interesting with activities for kids etc but actual park around wasn't. We had 3 kids with us and there wasn't much for them to do. Outdoors was pretty much like a junk yard. The only thing worth seeing was cottages and the indoor area. Without kids the outdoor area takes about 15min to explore. Quite disappointed to be honest.

At summer there is amazing. A lot to walk and watch. I really enjoy walking around canal and museum is very nice too.

Fascinating place exploring the iconic industrial history of Scotland, with a nice dollop of the cultural too. Highlights include working vintage tram ride, tours that take you into a coal mine recreation, and a row of worker's cottages, each fitted out for different eras, like early 1900s, to 1980s (complete with top loading VCR in the lounge!).

This is a very nice museum close to Glasgow. The museum visit is free of charge. The visit of the wee mine is a must do. The entrance fee for the mine is £2 per person. This is extremely low considering you get a full guided 30-minutes tour of a coal mine as it was used until very recently. You even get to wear a miners' helmet. Crawling through the narrow dark corridors, you can get an authentic feel of the harsh work conditions miners had to endure throughout their life. Children under 5 years are not permitted.
The museum is well heated and houses an exciting set of machines from the steelworks. You can even operate a large furnace. In the wee disco ball room next to the cafè you can try your dance moves with some Rock'n'roll or Charleston.
Note, the museum does not accept dogs on their premises.

Totally loved the vintage car display today. Hope to see more like this with maybe bikes and motor bikes. Parking was hopeless. Marshaling ineffective. It has limited parking so walk or catch a train.

Brilliant place to go for kids of all ages. 2 families went, ages 4, 6, 10, 10, 12. All of them loved the adventure park and the walk round to the mine. It was a Sunday in early March, so it was very quiet. There's a play area with bogeys next to the miners' houses, which is ideal to wait on those doing the short mine tour £2 a head. It was great, educational, and fun. Kids age 10, 12 loved it. The miners' houses were great to see. Make sure you get a look at the outside toilet, lol. Sweetie shop was a bit basic, but they all managed to find something they liked, and the lady serving was extremely helpful and nice. We then walked round to the main museum part, but we were all worn out by then (3.5 hours so far), so we headed home for a rest! Would definitely go back and will take the kids' foreign cousins when they come over in the summer. Well done, Summerlee, you were great!
