Rooms very basic,, window painted shut so no ventilation,,
Kettle wouldn't switch itself off shower was either red hot or cold
No pressure to shower...food was quite good but limited choice,,as they seemed to be out of most things.... breakfast was ok..but no menus(first morning)..no mushrooms or black pudding available...( Go to shop next door and buy some)...some staff were rude,,served my meal with no cutlery,,condiments etc..( in fact I'm still waiting for my gravy).the whole pub needs a total refurb,,as it's dated and very grubby...in my opinion the landlady's Lost interest,as the place is up for sale...she's just going through the motions,, till she can get out...
Definitely over priced at £100 a night...only worth £60 max..if that shame really as location in Stanhope's great....we definitely wouldn't stay again,,,unless we knew it had been totally refurbished,,but probably avoid even then...good pub going down the toilet VERY QUICKLY...

We never stopped here but visit whilst on holiday. For and drink are both very good, staff are very helpful and friendly. Great atmosphere

HOW BAD COULD A SUNDAY DINNER BE,
Well I don't think you would find worse than this place, it failed on all fronts,
The whole thing was heated by way of running past it with a candle, the mash was yesterday's at best, the cabbage held more water then the titanic, but not to worry the roast potatoes where so dry and black they absorbed most of the water, the Yorkshire pudding was straight out of a packet and on to a bonfire, Mr carrot was eligible for a bus pass, we hadn't eaten all day and it was still terrible, however service was fast no doubt due to the microwave, on the plus side there was plenty gravy that was until the chicken breast drank it, it reminded be of a flip flop I found on my house roof, baked to oblivion, I would have covered it all in salt but I honestly didn't have the heart they had already been through so much, God rest them all, they died in vain

Went in for lunch whilst having a walk around, excellent value for money huge portions! Small place but very welcoming will certainly visit again

Bangers and mash is authentic, but parmo was a tad dry cause chicken schnitzel tad overfried and not exactly appetising pairing up with big plate of chips. Think be better with small portion of fries and veg or salad. Big portions and good pricing though. And service was lovely. Plus, there's a pool table for fun.

Excellent weekend. Lovely staff who all go above and beyond. Sue the owner was amazing. Our evening meal was lovely and breakfast was the best we have ever had. Will definitely come back. Thanks to Sue and all the lovely staff made our weekend.

I hate to give bad reviews, however, I have no alternative in this case. The service was functional, not what I would call friendly and hospitable. Food-most items on the menu were "off" and what they did have was terrible. Pie was baked hard and black on the bottom and there was more gravy than anything else.
Scampi wasn't cooked properly and was slimy. Not a peasant experience at all. It's a shame as this place has so much potential. The location is excellent too!
It just feels that the staff do the bare minimum.
