Well located in the town. As is usual with this chain, excellent value, great choice of drinks at very reasonable prices. I visited at lunchtime and it was very busy, but the service was quick via the app and the staff were friendly. I particularly like the way that all the Wetherspoon I have visited have a local theme and this one has a fascinating story of a local character that led a Romany lifestyle.

Large restaurant and bar with reasonable amount of seating reasonably clean for a weather spoons, fast and friendly service at the bar, took a while for the food but food was nice reasonable portion for a reasonable price. Burgers was nice thickness and great taste with nicely cooked bacon. Onion rings was crispy and nice flavour, chips could been cooked a little longer but overall a nice meal, atmosphere was a bit loud could just be time of day.

We went out in Dereham last night and came across a heavily intoxicated female (by herself), she appeared to us to have possibly taken something or had been spiked. She was extremely vulnerable as she had no one with her, could barely walk or communicate and stumbling into traffic. We couldn’t leave her as no one else was offering to help. We tried emergency services however due to current pressures the response was terrible. We were expected to wait 4 hours with her in the freezing cold and rain for an ambulance baring in mind she was a complete stranger to us. We didn’t know her address so could not take her home even though we had support from a taxi driver. Our last resort was that someone agreed to stay with her in a hotel until ambulance/ police arrived. The closest place was Romany Rye, we explained the circumstances, and wanted to pay for a room but were met with the shift manager who was working last night; he completely disregarded the women’s safety. He was rude, disrespectful and looked at her in disgust and showed no sympathy what so ever before getting security to ensure we left. This particular member of staff should be ashamed, and their supervisor should consider whether this is the sort of person they would want to work at their establishment. We fully accept that it may have been company policy not to allow her in but the way it was handled was completely unacceptable. We managed to flag down a taxi driver who took us to the local police station which was closed, so we had to wait another two hours in the rain for an ambulance. During this time her health was deteriorating as she was freezing cold, soaking wet from the heavy rain, and so we’re we. We are not looking for praise but ultimately some people need to do better - imagine if this was your daughter, sister, wife or loved one.

A massive thank you to Helen!! I stayed in Dereham for the weekend and had left my handbag in this restaurant after breakfast and only realised once I arrived back in Kent almost 2 hours later. She kept it safe and discussed with her manager the best way to get it back to me before I go on holiday the following Friday. She ever so kindly left the pub to take it to the post office and send it off recorded delivery using the money that was in my purse (which I approved beforehand). I appreciate all their efforts.

Also, the breakfast was delicious and good portion sizes :)

Can not comment on rooms as only went for evening out with friends. But food and service was excellent. Reasonable price a menu suitable for every palate and a good selection of real ale beers at a sensible price. An enjoyable evening all round.

Went there for a meal and the 3oz American style burger and the 6oz American style burger. Absolutely delicious. My Friend had the chicken meal with the chicken bites and mini wings. Tasted off and later this evening was sick everywhere! Defiantly chicken as it was in the sick! Disappointed.

Stayed here for a night as I was doing a training course the next day nearby for work. There's parking available on the road out front, but it's public rather than dedicated for The Romany Rye.

The room was decent, it was on the basic side but had everything you'd need to be comfortable. I had an American style breakfast in the morning (served from 7am), which was delicious.

A quick visit to Spoons #103
Had a chicken salad which I thought was a little overpriced for what was a bowl of lettuce with a little tomato, chicken and bacon
There is a little bit of parking outside, steps at the entrance and a ground floor toilet
Bright airy with a great terrace
