Beautiful place to go. Is vast green land where you can have picnics or just walk around. And it has a woodland area too, we had a nice time and the children love it. It was fun and the weather was nice. Parking is not free but it was fine, £1 for 1 hour, £2 for 2 hours.

20/11/22: photo update. Found a Winter Photo scene taken circa 1980 (when I was 5 years old). Heaton Hall can be seen in the background. I have no recollection of the wall that stood in front of it. I have compared this view with a current view from Google Maps.

Been coming here over 40 years!

The lead Lion sculptures were removed for refurbishment in March 1997 and winched back into place on Tuesday, 14th October 1997, following a five-month refurbishment in Basingstoke.

The lions are the official symbol of Heaton Park's regeneration programme and were part of the £30 million National Lottery fund.

The hall is a focal point for visitors, so the return of the lions to the front of the hall is a symbol of our continuing commitment to the development of the park.

The cast lead lions were made in 1772 for Sir Thomas Egerton, who then owned Heaton Hall, by sculptor John Cheere. But they have been constantly abused over the years from the weather and vandalism.

They were first restored in 1989, but vandalism was still a problem.

The hollow lions have been strengthened inside to all extremities with stainless steel before being filled with a mixture of concrete and flint at a cost of £28,000

Heaton PARK is excellent but it should be noted that the HALL itself is never open. It's been closed to the public for years.
It's boarded up.

Lovely park lands, and lake, ruined by the experience in the cafe, we ordered a hot dog, nachos and cheesy chips, two mulled wines and a gingerbread hot chocolate, the mulled wine was cold, we had to take it back, the gingerbread biscuits was missing. After 40 minutes and no food, and watching people come eat and go, my husband went to the servery and asked about our food, it had been missed.
We then waited for it to be cooked, no offer of another drink, as we had already finished ours over 30 minutes earlier.
The nachos were disappointing, three nachos were covered in cheese, the same was guacamole and no salsa at all, these were not eaten, the chips said they were seasoned, but there was so much black pepper corns, that even my pepper loving husband couldnt eat them, so these also got put in the bin.
No one spoke to us, or checked how the food was.
I would recommend the park, but tell you all to avoid the cafe, and take a picnic.
