Decent food, average service, but prices that feel like robbery-

Tried the beef teriyaki dish here and found it to be decent. Nothing insane, but also not necessarily disappointing. The only disappointing factor was it’s upscale price point. The lemongrass juice we tried was somewhat decent, but leaned more towards the side of tasting artificial.

Service was decent too, though some of our servers seemed quite dry/uninterested to serve us. The restaurant was quite empty so we were tended to very quickly, which was nice.

Overall, a bit of an underwhelming experience. Enjoyed the meal and the nice ambiance, but I don’t think I would be coming back

The quality of food and the atmosphere was ok. Service need to improve a lot, specially the friendliness of the staff and the follow up and check the table time to time as nobody around when you need something. Nevertheless the experience haven’t meet our expectations specifically for the customer satisfaction.

We've dined at virtually every sushi joint in town, ranging from high end to budget friendly options, as well as everything in between. We are not particularly critical, are willing to overlook minor flaws and always appreciate good value for money. Tanuki however, was a major disappointment. The pictures speak for themselves, but the sushi appears to be made by amateurs. The miso soup was salty and inedible. The fresh watermelon juice we had possessed an awful aftertaste. The service was lackluster as well. Portion sizes were miniscule. The only redeeming factor was the restaurant aesthetic is somewhat charming. The worst part was the bill, which was significantly higher than competitors in a similar league.

We visited Tanuki to have some Japanese food. We ordered the tsurai ebi tempura, two sushi rolls (Sensi and Arigato), chicken katsu curry, and beef teriyaki.
The tsurai ebi tempura was very tasty. Its level of spicy was not overwhelming with a delightful aftertaste. Both sushi rolls were also tasty, especially the Sensi. As for the remaining dishes, we were disappointed. The vegetables in the chicken katsu curry were undercooked. The curry was hot at some points and cold in another. It was not cooked evenly. The chicken cutlet was very dry inside, it felt like eating grilled chicken, and very oily in the outside. The coating was falling off the chicken and it was not made of the traditional coating usually used in this dish, panko. The dish was tasteless and unauthentic.
The beef teriyaki tasted good, but the meet was very chewy.
The ambience of the place was lovely. Didn’t get the Japanese vibe though. The staff was lovely and super welcoming and our order was delivered quickly.
Overall, it was a nice experience, and we might come back in the future.

Terrible place! Super unprofessional service and the manager is an ignorant person. I did ask multiple times if my sushi is gluten free and they said yea. As soon as I started to eat I saw bread cramps!!! When I complained they did not even care too much and was clear for them food allergy is not something important! I did warn them I prefer not to eat here if they are not sure about the food, they pushed me to eat and here we are! The kitchen is terrible and they have no clue about the basics. Or maybe lie to get clients… what a place!

Seriously, the worst meal I had in Dubai.
Lamien beef noodles was too sweet and the beef tasted OLD!
The Bao Buns were VERY doughy & extremely sweet!!
My son’s Bento Box had chicken strips which were smelly, yuck!!
Sushi rice was as if it was in the fridge for a few days… again, WORST meal ever.

I should’ve know when I saw this place empty while other surrounding places were FULL.

My son and I ordered last night the Wednesday unlimited sushi rolls. The sushi was good and the waiters were great and doing their best, especially Ellie. The restaurant was not busy. However, making and serving the sushi was dead slow!! We spoke to the manager and nothing improved. What I felt from his tone is that if you guys ever come again don’t dare to order the unlimited sushi. Well, we will never come back again, ever!. What it was supposed to be a nice evening turned into a complete disappointment and frustration!

Terrible food! Unfriendly stuff! Seaweed and salmon was stale! When we told the lady she just said we can re-make it. With the same stale stuff? We even paid for all the stale sushis that we could not eat… shame…
