The focal point of Dover Castle is of course the castle itself. The vast majority of which remains intact allowing you to explore large portions at your own leisure.

Great views from the top overlooking Dover and out to sea. Well worth the visit.

Do be aware there are a considerable number of steps to access the first section of the castle.

It stands majestic in the middle of the property and guards over Dover like a sleepless giant.
It is sturdy, robust, and will live forever in time. It survived time, wars, nature, and most importantly, it survived humankind.
Everything about it is spectacular and mystical.
The panoramic view from the top of it is mesmerising, and breathtaking.

The view up here is the best, you can even see France during sunny days.
I never realized how close the UK and France are before reaching the top of this castle.

It is an amazing experience for young and old people. With the castle decorations, you get a great insight and feel to how the castle would have been when the kings and queens lived there. The castle and its grounds are a great day out, with so much to learn, spanning from the medieval times to World War 2. If you have membership, it is generally free, and they always have some great events up there, too.

Dogs are welcome but can not go inside.

The site is old, and the floor can be very uneven, so access for disabilities may be a bit restricted.

Be prepared to walk a lot. Comfortable, sensible shoes are a must and wear layers as can be windy and chilly in the shadows and shade.

It is well worth going into Arthur's Hall prior to entering the Great Hall as it gives you a grounding of the history of Henry II who commissioned its construction. I was lucky when I entered the Great Tower to be questioned by an actress in the role of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine (Henry's wife). The scale of the tower and its superb condition made this the best part of the castle to visit.

Lots of steps but a great view of Dover from the top

Part of the Dover Castle. I could not climb due to my disability but my 65yr old husband went up, and said the views are magnificent and the climb is easy.
