CAIRNBAAN HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

Loch a’ Bharain is an impounding reservoir for the Crinan Canal the 3 rivers that feed the loch are Cairnbaan River, River Baron Springsdale burn, and the Barnakill river. Barnakill river starts at Collie Mhor, High Barnakill then it flows into Loch Barnakill Reservoir
Lots of rivers flow into the loch which is why the river is bigger when it floods over the spillway on the big weir dam
Barnakill loch was formed by damming up a river on an unleveled field which the rive4 backflowed and flooded into a reservoir which is passed by the Add cycle road then it flows into loch a Bharain then the dam on the head of Loch a Bharain has a spillway which drains water from loch a Bharain then it goes through the power station which makes electricity that feeds power to the new houses/ cabins which will be built in Barnakill village then the river drains into the River Add mouth with the other river that drains the flood currents from the loch into the Atlantic Ocean and that’s how the. Hydroelectric plans are supposed to work there will be lots of confusing trails which are access routes which connect the Walknell Cairnbaan Quarry Road to the Baron

Construction starts July 2020 and finishes Dec 2021
