The hermits' cave is only a small cave with a carved cross with Jesus on the inside of the cave.

There is a gate that prevents entry to the cave. You can walk up to the gate to put a phone through the bars to take some photos.

It is an easy walk just through a short path in the woods.

There is not much there, but it is worth a walk if you are visiting Robin Hood's Stride and the stone circle.

Lovely area. We went here exploring with the kids. There is no sign to the hermit cave, but if you follow the cliff to the right (if coming from limestone way) you will find it. There is no entry to the cross, but you can see and take photos through the bar's. Be careful with young kids or people who are uneasy on their feet, especially if exploring the upper parts of the rocks as there quite a few unprotected cliff edges. All in all a lovely place.

Short detour from the Limestone Way is this alleged Hermit cave in the Cratcliffe Tor.
When we arrived we thought the 'hermit' was there, but alas it was just an elderly fellow hiker! ????
It appears to be more likely a shrine rather than a cave dwelling indicative of the carved crucifixion design inside the cave.
Easy enough to get to either across a field with a stone stile or on the slightly trickier lower route through the woods.
You can combine a visit to Robin Hood's Stride and stone circle in this same area of 300 metres give or take.

Location where a hermit used to live in the 14th century. A large crucifix has been carved, by a hermit, in the cave wall. An excellent example. The walk is a fun "explore" to the cave for kids and adults alike.

Love it here, great for a short walk with ancient and what seems to be an abandoned religious site.

Really interesting. 700 year old crucifixion carved in the wall. Bit of a tricky path for older people.
