We had our wedding here at the start of July and we could not be more thrilled with the service we were given. The newly refurbishment of palm court is beautiful and all of our guests raved about the food that was served. Ryan and Lyndsey went above and beyond to make the day run smoothly and the care they took made the day extra special

Great place with the friendliest staff. I was running non stop from Plymouth to Lynmouth, I needed to fill my water bottles at 2am. I rang in advance and they said the night manager would be waiting for me. He was, helped me out. It would have been a while lot harder without them.

We had a lovely time with family having sunday lunch. The food was excellent as usual. Our table for six was situated in the bar area, which was fine, but the chairs at the table were far too low for eating, perhaps this could be addressed, otherwise our visit was very good.

Our first visit after refurbishment and our last. The Palm Court restaurant (we sat there) is now rather dark and dreary and full of plastic plants, the bistro which looks Ok allows dogs (barking during our visit which could clearly be heard in the restaurant) The food was Ok but the biggest issue was the arrangement for paying which is shambolic and involves queueing for some time in a narrow busy doorway used by other diners to get in and out and staff clearing dishes. This was impossible for the disabled member of our party who was hosting a birthday dinner. He had to give up after standing for some time and had to sit in the entrance hall while I queued and paid instead. It was potentially embarrassing for him (I fortunately was carrying my bank card) and unacceptable for anyone who clearly has mobility issues.

The Royal Hotel go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. The staff are warm, friendly and exceptionally professional. We eat regularly at the bistro because of the exceptional customer service and the quality and presentation of the food. Shout out to the kitchen. We really cannot fault the hotel and Merchants Bistro.

I loved my stay here. I originally booked for 3 days but had to add an extra day on as I forgot about the train strikes. The Receptionist sorted an extra night with the same room and kept me updated. The breakfast was exceptional and I didn't need to eat again until early evening there was a lot of choices. The bar and reception is very modern and elegant. Some of the hotel is abit rickety and there are signs for uneven floors but it is an old building and I think it added to it's character. Some parts are Abit dated but it's good to re-use and recycle. My room was lovely and clean and my bed was very comfortable. It's near bus stops which is handy right on the Tarka Trail cycle track but also has a car park. It's in the perfect location. My bed was very comfortable and the bath and shower is very good. I very much enjoyed my stay and will definitely be coming back. I thoroughly recommend it.

I had a great stay and will be back next time. The friendly welcome when I arrived was great.the rooms were very clean. the ensuite bathroom a joy to use after a long journey.the price beat all other hotels in the area.thank you

Lovely hotel to go to looking over the river had a very good 5 days here.staff so friendly which always makes your stay better.
