Lovely fresh-water pool with lawn & garden surrounds, set in a magnificent borrowed landscape. 36m (40 yards) lanes

Amazing sprung fed pool. Visited on way home from Peaks.
Hotel reception staff friendly. Lifeguard great and very chatty
Just loved this pool .. no showers but felt fantastic after .. thank you!

It has a mythical quality about it, the water is refreshingly cold but does get warmer on sunny days. If you're staying at the hotel then you get access to the pool. The mineral content is high in magnesium and fresh, over 80 tonnes of water flows through on a daily basis and this keeps the pool fresh.

Check the times and be prepared... take a towel with you... people with long hair can purchase a cap. Have some shoes you can easily slip off and on. Googles are on hand and I’d recommend them.

Listen to what the lifeguards say, all of whom are chatty, friendly and all-round good eggs, the water is cold and it can take you by surprise.

We watched from our room as the other swimmers came and went and finally took the plunge (excuse the pun) and found it exhilarating. It genuinely sets you up for the day.

After the swim we scurried back to the room had a hot drink and climbed into bed to get warm. Jumping straight into a hot shower is not recommended.

We both agreed, there is something very special about this pool and the other folk there and the lifeguards add to this community vibe. Everyone is made to feel welcome and we will most certainly be back.

Love this place, if only I could get there more often.

The pool is great, although Im never convinced the temperature is a high as it says on the blackboard. That said, its and outdoor pool and today we had the added excitement of swimming in the rain, always added fun.

Its a great place for a leisurely swim as well as a good place to put in some practice laps if thats your thing too.

The staff are super helpful and always very upbeat. Must be something in the water.

Superb large lido set in the grounds of a hotel on the edge of Matlock Bath. The star feature is the thermal-spring fed water - no chlorine because the water is flushed through at least once a day. The water is cooler than a normal swimming pool - it was around 19ºC when we visited which felt wonderfully fresh on the very hot day we visited. People not used to colder water might need to get in more slowly.

It's obligatory to wear a swimming cap to keep the water clean - some people were given hairbands to tie up long hair but really, a cap is essential. I was glad I'd packed flipflops too.

We paid £10 each, booking is online - we showed the lifeguards our digital tickets on my phone. Check before you visit because the pool team told me they close it for a few days every 6 weeks or so to drain and clean the pool.

The ticket is for a one-hour swim slot. However, it seemed fine to stay on after the hour to enjoy lazing on the lawn around the pool. There are a few sun-loungers and chairs, and others were using towels as groundsheets. The lifeguard station was selling cold drinks and snacks but there's no café on site. It seemed to be fine to bring in your own food and drinks to enjoy on the lawn.

There are changing rooms, loos and sinks but - bizarrely given the emphasis on cleanliness - no showers. I'm not clear on whether we were allowed to use showers in the hotel - but I don't think that's possible unless you're staying at the hotel. Hopefully the team will be able to rig up simple outdoor showers with Matlock Bath's abundant spring water so swimmers can shower before and after...?

What a wonder , to swim in the pure waters of this under ground spring fed pool . They say don’t shower after you have swam and they're right your skin feels amazing . The best lido swim I have ever had :)

Don’t go here unless you have read all of the rules through several times and even then expect the lifeguards to shout at you in a very rude manner if you aren’t following all the rules - I was called selfish and disrespectful of other swimmers for not tying my hair back which is just plain rude and unnecessary

A decent enough lido but a bit old fashioned in a way part of its charm.

There is a changing room but most folks opt to change back into their clothes behind a towel poolside which I found a bit weird.

Its not signed well at all how to get to it. Basically as you go into the new bath hotel take the very first right, and park down the side of the hotel. There is a little gate which takes you to the lido.
