So I've passed the St Cuthbert's Church, the Cross, and Castle many times whilst at work. Finally, I've managed to do the tourist bit and explore the fascinating history here.
I was not aware of any facilities available at this location.
Such a beautiful and very remote location, not for visiting in poor weather, that's for sure.
It's a short walk from the Church around the neighbouring farm to a public footpath for access to the castle. It's easy to see with the views from the ground why this was such a good vantage point across the surrounding landscape.

If you are at Bewcastle Cross then you cannot miss this,
How parts of this are still standing is a bit of a mystery
It was bright sunny and hot when I was there, the Castle would be more suited to rain and fog.... :)

Fantastic history. Well worth a visit to Bewcastle Castle, Church, Cross and Museum.

Well worth a visit. Off the track the the church, the museum and the cross make this a vital place to visit.

Hidden gem.
Remains of Roman fort and later castle (and resident sheep).
World-renowned 7th century Bewcastle Cross.
Do go into the rather unpromising looking visitor's centre in the churchyard (free) - really good exhibition detailing the history of the area.
Inside the pretty little church, you'll find local guides (and stylish souvenirs to help pay for repairs).
No explanatory boards like in the Hadrians Wall hotshots, but if you go in the visitor's centre first the site us easy to understand.
And the scenery and drive there is magnificent.
Easy parking outside the church.

Ruins of an old castle, roads are quiet nearby so parking is easy on the side of the road, there’s an info board next to the ruins to discover the history. Sheep graze around the ruins.
