Awesome to have a free walk around. Really interesting Castle, with very interesting trees and vegetation growth in the area plus wildlife! There is cctv so don’t be messing about- we are very lucky this is on a public footpath and free for all to view, set in pretty woodlands. It’s was clearly a very grand castle in the day, in a beautiful setting including chestnut trees. Upon leaving at least 7 deer went flying by 1 after another passing us left to right, I thought I was stuck in the matrix and they were just going to keep on coming! Easy short walk from my car, but thanks to other reviews and seeing that if you wish to walk around each side of the castle, it is very hilly and often muddy, so do bring boots. I did and was glad! You need something with grip underfoot for sure! It was raining and slightly snowing when we visited. You can park by the houses- just do what I did & don’t block a road, resident space, car or gate. I just picked a house with a car outside and parked behind, ensuring I wasn’t blocking the gate of next door (in case they had a car but were currently not home). I folded my mirrors in and ensured cars could pass- all was good. Spent about an hour. Will be nice to return to see in summer. I am disabled but it’s mostly an upper body disability (bone) so taking the hills slowly and carefully isn’t too bad for me, but having to also cross a small stream, this it’s really not suitable for prams (unless you can carry the child over to the castle) and only really suitable for viewing from the other side of the stream for wheelchair users. It is a lovely site and you shouldn’t have too much trouble in the woodlands themselves as the pathway is pretty flat. Just the walk down from the tunnel (as others have mentioned, it is part of the public footpath towards there & I have included in my 3 photographs), is steep, so again if you are a crutch/ stick user or decide to chance it with a wheelchair, be very careful and certainly don’t go alone as you may need assistance! For those confused, once you exit the tunnel, turn right & then as other’s have mentioned, the castle just suddenly appears on the right out of the trees.

Hidden gem, don't follow the directions on Google maps or you'll end up half way down the hill on the A61. Also, don't park or listen to the attendants on the gate at Harewood house. They wanted £18 per adult and £10 per child to park the car and when we said we only wanted to see the castle, we were told it wasn't open to the public, not true, only accessable on the Harewood grounds, again not true and that there's no way of seeing it. We parked in the Harewood town hall, paid for parking at the honesty box and walked. Only on leaving the castle did we find the easy access point, between two houses on the next street down a ginnel. It's a great day out, you'll see lots of wildlife including deer.

hard access. the map shows the entrance from the side where the gate is closed. you have to go between private houses. I like castles so I think it's worth seeing.

Hidden Gem ???? Short and easy walk down from the road to the Castle. You can walk around the outside of the Castle, but aren't allowed inside it as its unsafe. You can still see through the old gateway inside though, my daughter loved exploring and looking in from outside.

Love visiting places like this and harewood castle was no different was a little disappointed you can go in, but it was pretty awesome and the sunset was just spectacular, seen a family of deer one was half white which was amazing to see, don't follow maps if your going here instead drive past where is tells you where the gate is and take your first right it will take you to a little cul-de-sac look for the sign that has public foot patch and walk down that see my photos to follow
