Didn't stay in the hotel but did use the Badger Bar for an evening meal on a Sunday evening. The bar itself was a little crowded so we were shown to the hotel restaurant. It was so atmospheric! Very old, with a wonderful array of furniture, an wood fired burner, an amazingly ornate radiator, lovely big chunky tables, sofas, old pictures. The food and service were wonderful and the roast chicken I had was seriously delicious. It was wonderfully moist and flavoursome. Good portion, giant Yorkshire pud, and a lovely pudding. The staff worked so hard and were super. Really enjoyed the few hours we spent there and can highly recommend!

Looks great but was closed when we went. ???? I don't know why pubs close so much these days you can't rely on them any more. I think especially in tourist areas they are shooting themselves in the foot. If you can't rely on them you won't go. We were there to do the walk round the lake. As was many people. Two other couples did the same as us. One couple walked up behind us and another was stood at the other side of the road. They shrugged and said we hoped they would be open too. So Grassington got our custom.

Popped in for a pint half way round the Rydal water circular walk.
Much improved since my visit many moons ago.
Selection of 4 great local beers.
Quaint and cosily furnished. Choice of 3 rooms all different all with lovely feel. Fire places which I assume would be roaring on a cooler day.
We didn't eat but the food on other guest's plates looked hearty.
Plenty of outside seating.
I'll be back a lot sooner.

After a fun day in Grasmere and Rydal hiking and exploring I was tired and needed a place to recharge and refuel. The Badger bar was conveniently located just 5 min down the road so it was a perfect pit stop. The food was tasty and came really quickly despite it being relatively full. Had some outdoor seating that was perfect on a sunny day!

Ended a big walk with a pint, food looked really good but didn't have the opportunity to eat but would definitely try on our next return. Didn't stay so no idea on rooms. Very popular with a busy friendly vibe.

Stay ruined by a rude staff member!! (didn't catch her name but she was middle aged and had brown hair and fringe).

There’s parking outside the cottages, specifically reserved for each cottage (plaques on the wall) but I returned in the evening to a car in our space.. the rude staff member made me feel stupid and said the space wasn’t ours and anyone could park there. She told me to park somewhere else and as long as I wasn’t blocking anyone (the irony), completely contradicting the sign and what her colleague who checked us in had said earlier - I had to park in a makeshift space near the bins and behind a wall.

Same rude staff member also didn’t want to serve us food despite us being told earlier we could order until 7:30pm and the cottage handbook also stating this. (It was 7:20pm). Our food order was reluctantly accepted but then took 55 minutes to come (for two meals).

This rude staff member contradicts the whole establishment and causes tension during what should have been a nice stay. Katie was great, as was the location and hotel, shame this staff member ruins everyone else’s efforts. I won’t stay again nor recommend to anyone.

Lovely atmosphere. Intimate, historical pub with tasty food. We both had Cumberland sausage and mash, it was delicious!

We enjoyed a drink in the garden on a hot and sunny Saturday, after a lovely walk around Rydal Water and up to the Rydal Cave.
The garden is a good size, with plenty of tables, some with parasols for shade. It was fairly busy but had a few available tables, and we managed to find a good spot with both sun and shade for us and the dogs.
We both ordered cappuccino and they were very well made, but there was a good choice of beer on draught. Will definitely return when I'm next visiting the area.
