SHARJAH, 7th July, 2022 (WAM) -- In implementation of the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairman of the Ruler’s Office in Kalba City, inaugurated a livestock market in Kalba, where Sharjah Asset Management Company, the investment arm of the Government of Sharjah, will manage and operate the market after the Sharjah Public Works Department accomplished it according to the highest standards and integrated services that meet the needs and requirements of the area’s residents and visitors.

The opening was attended by Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Head of the Department of Public Works in Sharjah, Ibrahim Al Houti, CEO of Sharjah Asset Management Company, Dr. Obaid Saif Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Kalba City, Abdul Rahman Al Naqbi, Director of Kalba Municipality, and Hamid Al Zarouni.

Executive Director - Jubail Markets in Sharjah Asset Management Company, Abdullah Khalfan Al Shamsi, Director of Sharjah Livestock Market, Engineer Bashayer Al Mansouri, Director of Kalba Branch in Sharjah Public Works Department, along with a number of government departments officials in the city.

The project is one of the development plan of the Department of Public Works to meet the needs of the municipal councils. The market is located in Kalba industrial area on 20,740 square metres.

Abdullah Khalfan Al Shamsi, Director of the Sharjah Livestock Market, stated that the opening and operation of the market comes within the plan and strategy of Sharjah Asset Management by developing the projects, services, mechanisms and procedures provided, which will constitute a qualitative service to the Emirate of Sharjah, and meet the needs and requirements of the residents and visitors of the emirate from various regions.

Al Shamsi added that the market has been designed based on the latest new technologies and in accordance with approved international standards in terms of general design and facilities equipped with the highest international quality standards followed in hygiene and public health.

In detail, Bashayer Al-Mansoori, Director of the Kalba branch in the department, indicated that the livestock and sheep market built on an area of 2,856 square metres, and can accommodate more than 1,785 heads of livestock and sheep, including 21 barns, each of them on an area of 136 square metres and a capacity of 85 heads, as well as the market includes a modern slaughterhouse on an area 1,540 square metres, with a ceiling height of 10 metres, and the slaughterhouse is suitable for slaughtering camels, cows and sheep.

The Kalba slaughterhouse is characterised by the application of several criteria, including adherence to the requirements of green buildings approved by the department, observance of environmental protection systems by reducing heat emissions, and following a central cleaning system for slaughter halls, thus reducing the use of cleaning equipment and materials.

The slaughterhouse includes the latest devices and technologies in accordance with the highest standards and health safety conditions that achieve efficiency in work, speed and achievement to accommodate large numbers and meet the needs of the people and end the operations of slaughtering and cutting sacrifices with high efficiency.

The market also includes 10 shops for future investment dedicated to selling fodder, in addition to a chapel. The market buildings were designed in a style that blends heritage with modern engineering.

The market also includes a service building, a cafeteria, toilet buildings, a prayer room for men, two guard rooms, 141 parking spaces, in addition to 70 external lighting poles and decorative fences 575 metres long, with internal roads to the market equipped with all traffic signs.
