Small shop but they do excellent bicycles maintenance and they order bikes for you if you want per your specifications. Moreover they have multiple spare parts and with various price ranges to chose from.

Quite difficult to get to, google maps only got me close. You need to go onto a dirt track (I wouldn’t recommend small vehicles attempt this, better to walk) and through a number of farm gates, make sure to close them behind you. Then across the beach to where the signpost is. From there you need to go on foot and follow a somewhat obscured track to the site. Wear sturdy shoes, mine got quite wet and muddy.

My wife and I have been there three times over the past 15 years and while a bit of a daunting hour on foot from the nearest habitation (the wonderful Kilfinan Inn), across fields and streams and lastly up a very steep hill, it's well worth the effort. If I were siting a strong and defensible home base (fort? palisade?) close to 1,000 years ago this has a lot to recommend it.
It's essentially a vertical drop to the Loch/beach on two sides with that steep and easily defended hill on the other. Lots of game nearby (deer, rabbit), not to mention Loch Fyne salmon.
Good choice, Clan MacEwen! Now if you only hadn't picked a fight with the Campbells....

Emotional... My husband and I got a little lost trying to find the Cairn but then felt euphoric on finding it. The setting for where once the castle would have stood, was truly idyllic!
As my maiden name is McEwan, I spent many years feeling proud of my surname and still do and now I have been able to find out more about my heritage.
Well worth a pilmigrage for any other McEwan clan travelling around west coast of Scotland.

Wow! What a wonderful experience getting to the site of Mac Ewen castle. Follow your GPS to get as close as possible with your vehicle and then begin your journey on foot. We drove as far as Google maps would take us (we ended up on a farmers road) and then made the rest of the journey on foot. This is a rural site and takes some walking and a sense of adventure to achieve the ultimate prize of viewing something this secluded and spectacular. I can’t offer much in terms of direction other than you will cross farmers fields, walk across a beach, and eventually climb a mini cliff to achieve the ultimate McEwan satisfaction. There weren’t road markers that we noticed but you will see a wooden marker “MacEwen” on the beach adjacent a fence gate. We saw lots of wild life and hand a blast getting here. Wish I could offer more insight as to the route but it is seemingly off the grid!

A really meaningful place to visit, as a New Zealand McEwan.
The nearby Kilfinan Hotel has a folder full of McEwan information and a 'McEwan visitors book' too. Lovely to be a part of it.

I won't get to see it in my lifetime, I love the pictures everyone uploaded though. I'm a McEwen on the east coast of Canada. Someone mentioned the Campbell's, their castle is looking a little rough:)
