Qasimia-2 Building Al Khaleej Investment

On our way from Whitby to Edinburgh, my wife and I took the winding, rolling road through the lovely Esk Valley to Stokesley and Hutton Rudby. The turnoff we chose from the A171 near Whitby was the road to Aislaby, through Egton, Lealholm, Houslyke, Ainthorpe/Danby, Kildare, Easby and finally Stokesley where we stopped for coffee. As we rounded a corner on the Rudby Bank Rd. in the village of Hutton Rudby, we caught sight of the beautiful 800 year old All-Saints church on our left and pulled off the road. Some parishioners were decorating the church and grounds with gorgeous flowers for the upcoming Easter Services and were very welcoming to us. They told us about the church, the history of the area. and the upcoming celebrations and services. We strolled down to the River Leven and were mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the birds in the trees, the horses gamboling about in a nearby field, the wind rustling the leaves of the trees, and the soft, soothing tones of the stream flowing under the bridge adjacent to the church. We spent some time in the church graveyard quietly reading the gravestones, not wanting to leave. It was with some regret that we left All-Saints behind as the experience from the moment we pulled off the road to long after stayed in our memories and hearts. Some time later I wrote this poem about our experience.

THE PATH

The light laid low
On gentle waters streaming by
And coaxed a peaceful, golden glow
From out the azure April sky.

The path led down to water’s edge
We wandered there to see
Above the rushes and the sedge
The bird, the leaf, the tree.

Our reverence. undisturbed by time
Joined with others gathered there
Their names were etched in stone and rhyme
And shielded with a prayer.

The light laid low
On gentle waters streaming by
We saw the world all aglow
And heard the breathless sigh.

Had a walk around the river very nice

A lovely church and a lovely service.
