Well worth the 3 hour journey! My advice would be to take a picnic unless fish and chips is all you fancy as there are plenty of chip shops along the main street. A camera is a must and don't be afraid to wander away from the usual tourist hot spots.

Seaside resort without the sea. Have never seen so many fish and chip shops in one place. Was pleasant to wander through but very busy and main road through the middle. Nice and green and river is used for kayak slalom course which was nice to see. Highly recommend Heights Of Abraham

Absolutely love visiting Matlock with the family. Not going to lie - parking is a nightmare and they have keen traffic wardens so keep an eye on the signs because if you park in the "1 hour max" bays they are straight on it! Highly recommend the Fishpond Pub, it sells nice food and has a little beer garden to the rear with a fishpond in it (funny enough) ! We hired a pedalo on the river.....was £15 for half an hour but if its not busy they let you stay on it for longer....(was knackered trust me half hour is enough) hire these from the top end of Matlock just to the right of the museum. You can hire canoes or go on an engine boat ride (personally I'd hire one you get better value for money). The big chippy opposite the fishpond pub sells bottles of beer ???? so if its busy (and it always is) you can always have chips and a bottle there! They are in the process of updating the children's playground which is across the river but so far it's looking good! Imagine that will be finished by summer. Toilets are a let down, they have one unisex toilet open at the moment in a cafe next to tourist information (I think they are doing work) but most pubs and chippy restaraunts will let you use theirs. There's a small arcade, small aquarium, museum and seaside style shops selling ice creams and doughnuts, sweet shops etc. You MUST visit the abraham heights its fantastic! But wear sensible shoes as you go into caverns and there's steps and can be slippery. Loads to see up there and fantastic adventure play for the children. Bikers heaven- I spent half an hour just admiring all the bikes and the bikers are super friendly and up for chit chat its just a genuinely friendly place. Gullivers Kingdom is also here but you need a full day for that. It gets super busy, you don't really want to arrive after lunch because you will struggle to park your vehicle x

Took a trip to Matlock Bath from Solihull, stayed overnight at a hotel but obviously visited the 'promenade' where you can only really park a motorbike and then do a walk up one side and then down the other. We were pleasantly surprised to find some kind of pirate weekend going on which would have been brilliant for the kids. There was such a great atmosphere with everyone being really friendly. The bikes were awesome, my favourite being a Ducati streetfighter which is my dream bike. Loads of amusements and quirky little shops which you can drop a few quid in. Glorious weather helped obviously and hopefully it will be as nice next time as we will be sure to return. There were a couple of idiots pulling wheelies up the main stretch to show off, maybe as your as 16/17 and didn't have gear on (dress for the slide not the ride). Hopefully they get clamped down on and don't grow in numbers.

We have been visiting Matlock Bath for many years to see the lights and boats with the grand kids and they love it. It does get a bit hectic as thousands decend at the same time and parking can be an issue, but we enjoy it.

It's good to see things are finally just about back to normal. You can find amusements, great bars, a couple of museums and other attractions here, not forgetting the fish and chip shops! It can get extremely busy but there's usually always a parking space free in the car parks or if your very lucky you can find one at the side of the road. I would highly recommend visiting here, it's very scenic and beautiful.
