Your shop & workers should be ashamed, your attitude is disgusting and you are all blatantly racist and covering it up by claiming it’s ‘ history’ and ‘ not to offend’. We are supposed to learn from the mistakes we made, not claim it’s part of 60’s heritage. You clearly are aware your dolls are offensive because of your daft sign ‘ not to offend’ and yet you keep them there anyway. You can choose non offensive and racist ways to be nostalgic
There’s plenty of history to draw in tourism in Goathland, tasteless dolls remanent of a racist past are an embarrassment. I find it shocking you can’t see how tasteless it is and it’s totally out is off the whole place which is a real shame

Unfortunately not letting the 'byegone years' be bye gone means that many are and should be offended. Myself included! Ignorance is one thing, given the 'friendly' notices asking people not to be offended, and more concerning, to not take photos we can sadly not give them this courtesy.
The blatant racism on display here is extremely concerning in this day and age especially given the events of recent years this is completely unacceptable. Having grown up in North Yorkshire, I come home and proudly show off my home to my family and friends! Sadly, not only will I be avoiding this shop, but I will be avoiding the rest of the village and advising all my family and friends to do the same!

The fact that they have a sign saying no photos, and a sign saying they don't mean to cause offence, suggests that they are fully aware that their knitted heritage 'golliwog' dolls can and do cause offence. There's no reason for these to be on sale in what would otherwise have been a pleasant store. You lost my custom as a result, and I'm sure you will continue to lose that of others .

Visited here today. If I could give one star I would. This shop seems to think it’s ok to have a display of clearly racist and derogatory products. They have signs up stating “no photography” next to said products as they clearly know it is wrong, plus signs up stating these are not meant to cause offence. I was planning on buying gifts from here but left without buying anything after seeing these items, I was shocked and horrified. We quickly left Goathland afterwards as this is clearly not a place which is welcoming to everyone. Absolutely shocking that this could exist in 2023.

Golliwogs? In 2021? Wow.

The only good thing about discovering this shop was that it prompted a good discussion with my 10 year old, about racism and the knuckle draggers that love to resuscitate this type of caricature.

It’s simple really - if you don’t support racism, don’t spend your money here. I didn’t.

Went in and found a perfect mug and fridge magnet that I purchased, found my husband who said to follow him to the back of the store. I couldn’t believe what I saw (and I grew up in the 70s/80s) there was a massive golly display with a couple of signs. One requested no photos, why only that section of the store? The other to tell us that the ’Jolly Golly family’ were from ‘bygone years’ and ‘we are not here to offend’ well it’s fair to say that a lot of people are offended. These items belong in a Robertson’s museum and nowhere else. The black and white minstrel show was from ‘bygone years’ as was shoving children up chimneys to clean them but I can’t see either of those things happening again soon. I don’t want the shop to go out of business but if no one buys these offensive items then they will see there’s no demand and will stop stocking them.

A great shop
Absolutely loved the Golliwogs utterly fantastic.
And a message to all you pathetic snow flake liberals that have destroyed England.
"If you don't like this shop, don't go in it". It's that simple.
And also keep your trouble causing comments to yourselves as your a minority pushing your pathetic views, and we don't want to hear them ok.
Great shop 11/10.
