It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for in life.
Both the courses are good for different reasons.
Put this course on your bucket list, you won't be sorry.

Individually the two courses, Balcomie and Craighead, are very different. Balcomie is old, a true links set close to the shoreline. Craighead is a relatively new course set slightly inland with a few holes touching the shoreline. Most people come to play Balcomie for its history and links layout but in my opinion would be missing out on the better of the two courses. Craighead is a more structured golf course where no two holes are the same and each hole exists independent of the other 17. Balcomie on the otherhand can feel claustrophobic and, at times, even nerve wrecking to play as balls cross fairways, and even the next teeing areas, with regularlty. For me, Balcomie suffers from too many holes fitted into too small an area. It does however have some of my favourite part 3s anywhere. Craighead, whilst new, feels original and much older than its youthful years. It's more open than Balcomie, longer and generally more relaxing in my opinion.
Clubhouse does a variety of meals for hungry customers and caters well to the growing vegetarian contingent as well.
Finally, I would like to see a marshal on the old course as some visitors can be slower than necessary and turn what should be a 3.5 hour round (4 ball) into a 4.5 hour round for all the groups behind. This doesn't seem to be monitored but I might be wrong.
