Fine dining makes you feel welcome, and doesn’t try to intimidate you. You really feel a strong urge to go back to experience the outstanding hospitality and satisfy your inner food cravings
On the other hand, the experience of
dining at Indigo after reading all the glorious reviews was sub-optimal and did not provide any value for money.
Alas, some food items were a complete waste of money and the service needs a lot more improvement in our opinion.
The service that we got was similar to a 2 or 3 star restaurant and was very basic, mediocre, slow and even a bit pretentious.
There was no greetings , we did not feel welcome, the server Amal just took the order and did not even bother to genuinely check upon us on a regular basis, asking us if we wanted anything else like dessert, or greet us in a proper manner, even while leaving. It was just a strictly BASIC or even mediocre service. There was no smile, no proper greetings. The manager checked upon us once when we were initially seated asking us if everything was ok. But that was it. There was no follow up after the meal.
We ordered the paneer vegetarian main course which was fantastic.
The malai kofta was a disaster and it was just loaded with triple cream and totally tasteless. The koftas were good but the gravy was too creamy and insipid and we felt that we were eating a blob of cream and saturated fat. The malai kofta fat concoction came at price point of 95 AED which is MoNeY ???? down the drain. It is surprising that this is in the most recommended items by the chef - as more and more people have become health conscious, it is sad that the restaurant is patronizing this unhealthy dish which is basically a blob of tasteless saturated fat.
We got an assortment of daals with the chef complements which was good. The drinks ???? were good ( their signature mock tail of passion fruit, pineapple was excellent and had an eclectic dash of cardamom to it. The rose wine was ok.). The paneer was fantastic and so were the naan and roti.
While the ambience was awesome, we felt that the service needs much more improvement to keep up with the true spirit of a five star hotel associated with the Beach ROTANA brand.
At a minimum, the server should learn to smile and greet the customer properly and check upon the customer on an ongoing basis with genuineness (and not in a pretentious way). Even after we gave immediate feedback about the malai kofta, the server just smiled and did not do anything about it. Also, Please check with the customer if they would like to have dessert instead of slamming the bill immediately after the main course.
The entire experience left a lot more to be desired and offered extremely poor value for money.
In retrospect, we felt we should not been swayed by the promises of this so- called fine dining experience and ‘Instagramable ‘ interiors. We were just hoping the food and service to be equally good. Why would any discerning customer spend approximately 300 aed to dine at a place where both the food and service are not up to the mark and leave a lot more to be desired. We would rather go to a local place like tandoori corner or Nihal that offers tastier and better food and provides much better value for money ( and possibly much better service). Nevertheless, thanks for the meal.
