You’re probably already familiar with McGettigan's, but did you know that there was a new upscale location at Dusit Thani and that it has a very nice new Friday brunch? If not, my advice is to give it a try. It’s socially-distanced, non-smoking, and as with anything McGettigan's, you’re guaranteed a good time at this Friday brunch.
Whether you are after a casual date lunch, want to party with your friends, watch the game on the big screen with other sports fans, or you just want to relax and kick back after a long week, this McGettigan’s unlimited Friday roast has got you covered.
There’s a great soundtrack, awesome food, and fun times. The meal was fabulous though, and I much prefer a table service brunch to a food trough personally. The way it works is you select a package as with any brunch. Then they immediately bring you out a sharing plate of starters. Be careful not to go all out on the starters though they are divine: they’re very filling, and you’ll regret it. In this case, I mean it when I say save for room for desserts—they’re delicious.
The starter tray consisted of Arancini balls, which were the highlight for me, fried calamari, nachos, and a crisp and refreshing Caesar salad to offer respite from all the fried food. You can have unlimited plates of starters, but again, pace yourself! This brunch is lots of food and lots of drinks.
Once the fog of your food coma lifts—if it does, your server will come around to ask you to select your mains. You have the choice of ribeye, salmon, fettuccini, and chicken cordon bleu. We opted for the ribeye and salmon. The mains are massive and quite tasty. The accompanying sauces and sides were so much nicer than most pub lunches that I have ever had, it seems they were really trying to raise the bar on the pub lunch with this brunch.
The desserts were stand out. Now, I am not usually a dessert person, but on a friend’s suggestion, I made the exception for a certain sticky toffee, and I highly suggest you change your mind, break the diet and start again on Monday, or do whatever you need to do to try this dessert. It’s sumptuous, but not too sweet nor too sticky and served with a yummy vanilla ice cream topped biscotti. Everything about it was fabulous. My companion got Bailey’s cheesecake. He did enjoy it and ate the whole thing, but let’s just say he knew he chose wrong when he saw mine. You do not have to live with dessert envy! Order the sticky toffee. You’re welcome.
So, the verdict is this brunch is a hit. It’s fun. It’s great value for money, and it’s new so be among the first of friends to check it out and spread the word. I'd definitely book in advance, b/c Covid-19 seating. Call 02 698 8145.
