I had been treated in an A
&E department in a hospital in the Midlands. The wound had not been properly cleaned nor sutured. The dirty wound was infected. I arrived at James Cook hospital I received excellent care . The wound was cleaned, skin was grafted from my thigh. I was given antibiotics and my wound is now healing well. Many thanks for the wonderful treatment given by James Cook A&E / plastic surgery department.. many thanks to all concerned.

That's a generous one star, only because you can't give zero. Booked in last night with Mum. Waiting room heaving, but I'd expect this on a Friday night, so no issues there. Receptionist quite rude. All patients should get a friendly welcome. We were made to feel like an inconvenience. There was no impression that we'd get 'cared for', and this is just basics and easy to achieve. She refused to tell us the waiting time (someone in the waiting room mentioned 5 hours). It should be on display for all to see. We discussed other local services, and asked advice on these, with a view to not being an additional burden on an already over-stretched A&E, and going elsewhere. She wouldn't advise. Nurse sat next to her didn't engage. Nurses hugging in reception area in full view (aren't we meant to minimise contact?). My Mum is blind. They refused to let me stay. They said only criteria for relative to stay was dementia, or Parkinson's (presumably for falls risk). This makes total sense, but being blind in a packed, noisy waiting room is just as much a falls risk. No common sense applied.

We know the NHS is broken. Staff are on their knees. We appreciate hardworking great NHS staff across the land. The experience here was disgraceful.

Going out of area is generally not recommended, but they forced our hand here. We left, and travelled to Darlington Memorial A&E. It was still busy, and we had a long wait, but we got a friendly welcome from staff. They had staff observing the waiting area, and checking on patient welfare. All staff were welcoming and friendly. Despite a long night there, a positive experience overall.

Waiting area too hot, felt sick. Not given any waiting times. When I eventually got to triage, nurse whizzed through it, you didn't get a chance to say what was wrong, couldn't even give all allergies. After 4 hrs, 1 mri later. I was told there was just one person in front of me, another hr and went up and asked 2nd receptionist as other was away from desk. She said we have no way of knowing , you will have to ask a nurse. I saw bloody tissues and used cups on waiting room floor and went to the toilet and there was blood all over disability rail. I did report this. I had to knock on door to exam room who said Dr chasing it up. Never again. I would rather be in pain. I didn't feel safe at all. It was as if no Covid exists here.

I recently attended A&E and despite being extremely busy, the staff were polite and friendly, and I was kept informed about waiting times. The service was very efficient and staff who I saw professional. Thank you all.

only leaving one star because it’s impossible to leave none, 3 experiences within the A&E department within the last year, one for my girlfriend, one for a friend and one for me and each of them were absolutely abysmal, incompetent, rude and lazy staff who would rather turn around and walk away than answer a perfectly relevant well mannered question just because they don’t want to have to think of an excuse on the spot as to why you can wait up to ten hours for blood tests and 3.5 hours for a mere bottle of antibiotics when it isn’t even busy, it’s understandable if they were rushed off their feet but you can see through the window in the door that there’s 10/15 staff stood around laughing and talking, that’s not even an exaggeration, I don’t know for sure if the redcar hospital is any better but it sure as hell can’t be any worse, I would recommend to anybody in the local area to go there before going to James Cook, genuinely pathetic showing of care, I’m aware that the NHS is underfunded and in many areas understaffed but each of the 3 times I’ve been in this year there’s been more staff than there has been patients and not one of those patients has had anything positive to say about the place, absolutely ridiculous experience from start to finish

Doesn't even deserve 1 star sat waiting for 8 hours in excruciating pain had to leave and go home because thay said the wait was going to be another 7 hours absolute joke

Not even one star I will give to this hospital.The worst experience ever.
Waiting 7 hours at emergency????????
It was very awful and the treatment it was anspected.
Definitely I will not come back here.
