Surely - before you visit you check on its history? .. It was over 7,000 tons of metal and scrapped around 1962 - When the line was closed and lifted - Only massive stone supports left...

Perhaps Google Maps should label the place as 'Site of Belah Viaduct'. It was a stunning structure, sadly demolished far too hastily when the Stainmore line was closed in the early 60s. Steel lattice (or more accurately cast and wrought iron in this case) viaducts were relatively rare on England's railways so it is regrettable that this one was not preserved as a historic monument. We have lost far too many examples of irreplaceable infrastructure like Belah over the years.

I have suggested an edit to say Belah Viaduct (site of), to stop confusion of the viaduct being intact. There are the stone abutments remaining and a dilapidated signal box,but no trace of the tressle viaduct which was demolished soon after the line closed in the 1960's.

Tried using it as a shortcut across the valley but once I'd fallen from the parapet was very disappointed to realise it hasn't been there since about 1963, won't use again keep clear
Several of my co walkers fell to their deaths so was even more disappointed to find the old little chef on the A66 had closed down. Is there no end to the torment this area puts on my life
