As two out-of-town ale drinkers me and my mate were persuaded to pop in here by some good Google reviews praising this pub's great beer selection and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Yes there were two local ales on draft, so we asked the barmaid what types of ale they were because the labels on the hand pumps didn't really make it clear. And because the locals sitting at the bar had no intention of moving for us so we could see clearly, we were struggling. The apathetical barmaid appeared non-plussed, so I asked if they were pale ales perhaps, or maybe one was an India pale ale.

"Oh no," she said tersely, "they're not from India; they're local beers, made just up the road!"

Unbelievable! She then went on to add that one was darker than the other. The locals at the bar offered no help; they just smirked and stared at each other, clearly not happy that some "northerners" had dared to venture into "their" domain. They themselves were drinking the ales, but no, why should they act like millions of ale drinkers up and down the country and actually help? There was one friendly local though - a downs syndrome chap who gave us several warm smiles as he supped his lemonade, bless him...

We shan't rush back. And I suggest that if you're not a local avoid this place at all costs. And for the information of the ignorant barmaid, we think the beer I had was a golden ale, and my mate's was a pale ale. It's just shocking that we had to guess. But they were both quite nice drinks actually.

So in short - Nice ale, shame about the people...

Rude bar staff - landlady was offended that 6 people wanted to pay separately. Guinness tasted off and had to be abandoned, guess the lines need a good clean

Appalling place rude barmaid and Guinness tasted like a dirty penny. Local to Dorking but won’t go here again.

It's a great place to go to unwind after work . A nice atmosphere with friendly staff .

A typical working man's pub. No frills just as it should be. Good beer and basic warm environment. No cheesy themes!

Great little pub with excellent beers, pool table, juke box, friendly atmosphere, football and a Tardis.

Fancied a night out somewhere different so we boarded the train out to Dorking. This was the second pub we tried and we were not disappointed. Proper pub decor, friendly bar staff and a jukebox playing great music... Motown and Atlantic are the perfect soundtrack to a pint. I even managed to win a game of pool for once as well. Will definitely be back!

This place used to be good. No more is there a choice of good real ales. No more sensible notices about new situations about closing the garden at 10pm. Prices increased to the point that a pint of ordinary fizzy cider that does not hold a candle to one at the nearby White Hart that costs £4.40 there, but costs 5.10 here. People reading this review should forget any review before 2020, because you will be seeing a different pub, with different management!
