Not my usual bank but so pleased we visited. After visiting Barclays to open my children a bank account and being told the nearest appointment was nearly two months away we wandered up the High Street and found ourselves in Metro bank. We were seen to almost immediately and were helped by a very helpful man who opened the accounts.
We even left with the new debit cards and the apps set up on their phones. Very impressed. All this in the same day and without an appointment.

Colchester branch.
This is my second visit over the last 2 weeks. Each time there has been 4 staff behind the counter but only 1 staff member dealing with enquiries and opening accounts. So far, I have been waiting an hour to see somebody. I feel the service somewhat lacking!! I deliberately avoided lunch times too.

I have been banking with this bank for 3 years now. They also have a locker facility. The service in this bank is outstanding you get attention almost immediately and the staff come to you and ask you how they can help. The bank is open during week days until 8pm so there is plenty of time to go to the bank after work, also they are the only bank I know that is open in weekends. Highly recommended!

Last Friday we went to pay an invoice from our business bank account using online banking, we got an error message saying it could not be completed and to contact the business team. Called them to be told that our account had been frozen but they didn't know why and they would send an e mail to the relevant department to get this rectified.

After not hearing from them, I called them again on Monday to chase up and the call centre could not tell me what the issue was. They put me through to branch and one of the managers there advised that they were concerned about a larger than normal amount of money that had been transferred by someone to the account. I confirmed that the person in question had called to advise us that they had sent in this error and we had tried to return it but had been unable to due to the restriction placed on the account. He advised that he would get look into into it and get back to me within 48 hours.

I called again today and was advised that they were closing our account. That's it, no explanation, no discussion, no communication.

We went into branch where we were simply told the departments that had made this quite frankly ridiculous decision were not customer facing and there was nothing they could do and we could not get OUR money out of the account THEY had decided to close.

After pretty much losing our tempers with them and demanding they unfreeze the account we finally walked away with a bankers cheque.

The absolute kicker? The manager telling me that our personal and other business account were unaffected by this and they would like to keep our business.

Wait for it, it gets better... naturally we went into our personal accounts to begin the process of taking our money elsewhere to only get another error message. Called the call centre AGAIN to be told that they have frozen my personal account.

Overall Metro Bank froze our business account for 15 days with no explanation or communication. We contacted them continuously to be told that the department we needed are not customer facing and there was nothing they could tell us.

Then to close a business account without any explanation is quite simple disgusting. We are in the midst of a pandemic, we are due to open again in less than 7 days with no bank account. We are expected to open a new bank account in a time where no banks are taking on new customers. We have bills and rent to pay with no way of doing so. So until we can get an appointment in FEBRUARY we are pretty much up a creek without a paddle.

And to think this time last week we were actually recommending these cowboys to our friends and family.

Had all of our accounts locked on a Friday very similar of the reviews below. No explanation as to why. Can't get hold of anyone in the branch. Teams on the phone have no clue why. The team that deals with this are not customer facing. Our business is on hold until we can actually speak to someone.

Metro Bank have been slowly going downhill. This is the final straw for us and ill be leaving as soon as I'm able. I'd recommend anyone else steer clear of them.

Tried to open a new business bank account up for my new business. Was told of a 6 week wait time because of a backlog. Very unhelpful!

Absolutely not recommend. Apply for business account. Keep me waiting for 4 months and after4 months get email that not able to open business account. Call customer service and ask the why? Rude guy over phone say because I have closed my business account about 1 year ago there not going to spend time to open other one for me. Need to say previous account was deferent business. I am metro customer from 1st day bank open in Colchester and need to say absolutely no help or support from metro bank employee or customer service. There think if open door for you make them better bank. I can only recommend go to bigger and better bank. Definitely not recommend metro bank to anyone. I am going today to closed my account. Disgusting bank.

Lauren was excellent from start to finish, friendly, professional and explained everything very well. Glad we chose this bank, particularly as its opening hours are excellent.
