Great tour of the Minster (not a cathedral...more!). If you are reasonably fit, take the tower climb...TOTALLY worth it. I think the stained glass tour would be incredible too. York was awesome as was the Minster.

Impressive Minster.
Entry fee which is reasonable as it can be used as an annual ticket. Free for local residents. Good place to go if raining. Queue well organised.
Not sure if there is a cafe as couldn't find it. Museum interesting.

A beautiful cathedral with a really excellent museum in the undercroft. I loved learning about the history of the area and the archaeological evidence that they've found. The stonework and stained glass are stunning. I wish we had more time to do the audio tour.

Absolutely awesome building. The history of the building is incredible. Well worth the visit. Give yourself plenty of time to see everything as it's a big building. I didn't climb up the tower as 275 steps up a spiral staircase gives my vertigo the wobbles! But it was a fantastic experience even without the climb.

Splendid. My must see when visiting York. I love nothing more than Evensong in a cathedral and this was beautiful. Prior to this service I toured the cathedral. It was £16, lasts a year for readmission. Services are always free. Queues were very fast. The stained glass windows are truly breathtaking. Visit, it’ll be worth it.

Time at York Minster can only be described as monumental. Every step inside the building is one towards a pillar of faith or towards an historic facet of York going back to the Roman Empire. In recent history the weight of the massive cathedral was so great that it began to sink into the ground. Huge cracks in the walls threatened to topple the building. However, with great engineering and expense, the protection of the building against collapse began.

Here's where it gets quite interesting. As they dug and executed the planned repairs, they soon discovered that each layer they uncovered revealed the history of the location going back to the massive Roman Empire. From massive columns to tiny decorative aspects of Roman uniforms, they found a rich treasure of historical artifacts trekking the rich history of structures built on that location. They have a tour of this underground discovery which is worthy of exploration. In a rush you could do it in less than twenty minutes, but you could easily spend an hour reading the history, seeing the sights and doing sketchings of ancient signatures and canine footprints discovered in the stone work.

This, among countless impressive religious expressions, artifacts, and forms makes York Minster a worthy visit on any trip to the region.

It's best to order any tickets and tours in advance when possible.

Cheers

From the moment you step inside and for many hours after, this cathedral is truly spectacular. The acoustics, the stained glass windows, the intricate carvings in the masonry and the massively high roof line just take your breath away.

If you're in York, even for a short break, York Minster is an absolute must see.

Amazing ????????????????????

York Minster is one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals.

Since the 7th century, the Minster has been at the centre of Christianity in the north of England and today remains a thriving church rooted in the daily offering of worship and prayer.

The Minster was built for the glory of God. Every aspect of this ancient building - from the exquisite, handcrafted stone through to the unrivalled collection of medieval stained glass - tells the story of Jesus Christ.
