If you get a thrill from being in a location of which there is evidence that the Mighty Roman Empire was there then you are going to love looking at these ditches and mounds. Quite a big site and the furthest north I have felt such abuzz with that Roman hit. See attached photos for where best to park and where to go.

Best remains of a Roman fort ditch system in Britain, only comparable site is Whitley castle.

This is just an incredible site but there remains very little of the romans other than the earth works.
Worth visiting if you happen to be in the area.
The ditches are actually massive and is quite a large site.
It would be really cool to see some kind of archeology or visitor centre near by though.
No info and little or no parking but still worth a look

Great example of Roman earthworks! There are no signs around about the fort but it's a lovely walk. Just as a heads up there is a small car park on the other side of the bridge and the road to the right of the gate into the field is private property. (the owners would appreciate it if you did not block their driveway, they get rather cross about people who pull in accidentally)

Roman fort, farming accident or just an overactive mole, who knows? Anyway, this is certainly a large field with some dents in it. Do check it out if you happen to be driving past and need to stretch your legs. Do not expect to be wowed or even slightly impressed.

Ardoch Roman fort is virtually on our doorstep so we regularly walk around it. Totally safe for medium/ large dogs as they cant escape.The uneven terrain can be challenging also the steep slope to ascend to the top can be tricky if it's wet or icy. Having said that it's a very pleasant way to spend some time wandering x
