The Crowne Plaza Diera Dubai is a 5 star nice hotel, however there is a lot of improvement required.
The check in process is dysfunctional and is a disgrace and not worth 1 out of 10!
There was only one person at the check-in desk, and I later learned this was the manager, and he was severely deficient in his ability to deal with staffing and customer relations.
While the manager sat checking in a family, he ignored everybody else and there were numerous other customers wondering around and people were waiting for very long periods of time without any other staff members or the manager acknowledging them.
After waiting for about 20 minutes and still no acknowledgment, no other staff attending the check in counter, and nothing seemed to be progressing, but other people were arriving and pushing in infront of us and again there was no staff to deal with this and when staff arrived they served the people.who pushed in first. Disgraceful!
I questioned several staff why is there only one person here and they would just walk off disappear and like the manager who sat totally ignoring the developing mess, he simply sat there, didn't make any attempt to get any other staff members or to acknowledge those waiting and he simply didn't care.
Customers were now getting quite frustrated and I then asked to see the manager. Again no interest or effort to address the issue and the the staff member just walked off and didn't do anything. Again I asked a different staff member could I see the manager and he pointed to the person sitting down checking in the family, and he said that is the manager.
Then with disgraceful conduct from the manager he said what is the problem. I said, "We are all waiting to check in here, and we have been waiting for a long time and there's people waiting here everywhere. Why is there only one staff member?", and he said, "I am busy, take a seat we will get to you!" Appalling behaviour and response from a very bad mannered manager.
I am a Diamond elite member, and I have never seen such a dysfunctional poorly managed check in process in any hotel in the modern countries.
What disgraceful conduct by a manager that is clearly incapable of controlling or organizing his staff. This hotel needs to reply it's management with I manager who is customer focused and who knows how to handle customers and how to organised staff. Staff here have no supervision or care about customers.
Eventually after 40 minutes I was able to check in and very kindly they had upgraded me to a suite.
The suit was spacious and consisted of a large living area, a small study nook, and a bedroom and bathroom.
There was a lounge suite, which unfortunately was not very clean and there were no cushions which was rather odd.
There was a small office desk, a safe, tea & coffee making facilities, a glass front bar fridge which only kept things cool, an old outdated TV that didn't even have a USB outlet and it wasn't a smart TV, and it had a very poor selection of channels with very little in English, which is surprising for a suit.
The firnishings and light fittings were modern and pleasantly designed.
The bedroom had a large LCD TV Smart TV, however it was not connected to the internet and so there was no service to things like YouTube or anything else, and there was a very poor reception, so the quality if the picture was fuzzy and poor, and the selection of TV stations was sub standard. They were very few stations and if you only speak English there was very little to watch.
Wi-Fi is terrible and drops all the time, and it is non exist in the bedroom you could use at all. Very poor for a 5 star hotel.
There was a separate shower and toilet and bidet. The shower was ok but had fairly poor water pressure, and unfortunately housekeeping wasn't up to scratch because when I was having a shower it ran out of soap in the dispenser.
Also when housekeeping made up the room they didn't replenish or replace things, and they didn't even bother to hang up the bathrobes.
They were no bathrobes in the room which is odd for a suit, but if you called housekeeping and they would deliver them to the room.
The bed was comfortable, but the pillars were very thin and so I needed 6 pillows to be able to make up what would normally be 4 pillows.
On the fourth level there is a large deck and swimming pool, with a limited number of sun lounges.
The swimming pool is quite deep and well over 2 meters deep, but was pleasant for a swim.
The dining area for the restaurant was very pleasantly designed and set out, however the food quality was very poor. The majority of the hot food at breakfast was either cool or barely warm. There was nothing that was supposed to be hot that was hot, except if you went to the egg station and had eggs made to order.
There was a really good selection of food available with areas including an egg station, a western food area, and an Arab food area. There was a variety of breads and croissants, cereals, yoghurts, and a fruit area, and a buffet style hot food area where they had things such as baked beans, turkey bacon, chicken sausages, hash browns, and one or two other items but none of these were hot.
The hash browns were cold and limp, and other items supposed to be hot were barely warm, and no one was taking them. There was no quality control which again highlights poor management. No one was checking food temperatures to see why customers were not choosing the food.
Staff would come out and lift the lids to the warming containers, but not once did they check the temperature of the food.
Overall the hotel is reasonably pleasant and comfortable, but management need replacing because they're clearly incapable of operating the hotel effectively or efficiently.
