Previously known as Deira Islands, owing to its proximity to the area, Dubai Islands is an initiative by Nakheel, a world-leading real estate company now owned by the government of Dubai.

While the concept of manmade islands is not foreign to the United Arab Emirates, it’s always exciting to watch a new development come to light. With this project, Nakheel intends to set up five islands that will go on to expand over 17 square kilometres. The five islands together will be called the Dubai Islands. The primary reason for the undertaking is to enhance the well-being and lifestyle of residents and visitors in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

A lovely and very interesting place. Could sit there and watch for hours. What a marvelous piece of men made architecture!

Very scenic and peaceful, local cafe including a hotel with walks along the canal. Interesting to watch the locks in operation and boats entering and exiting the canal. The path along the canal is scenic and peaceful and of good quality. Suitable for prams and pushbikes. The single track roads require caution and can slow the journey time down a lot.

Great location for walks along the canal bank. Lovely views with some spectacular yachts thrown in for good measure.

As in Crinan the canal and area around is well kept and a marvel of engineering. The local area and surrounds of the canal through tae the other side are very picturesque and scenic. Walking is of course easy and dinnae forget tae visit the recently released Beavers close by.
