We parked South-West of Hebden Bridge along the A646- Free parking and a great walk through the town, and along the river from "Packhorse Bridge" to Hardcastle crags! come up just through "the lodge" just near the Midgehole car park.
Hardcastle Crags offer different walking routes which are clearly marked by the map on site. Well maintained and popular walking location. Nice cafe at Gibson Mill. Dog Friendly! the staff are super friendly and very informative. really enjoyed our walk here! Free to visit, paid parking on site.
Please note if you are parking on A646 it is quite a trek including the walk whilst on Hardcastle Crags.

Visited 29/06/2023 using National Trust family membership, scanned member card QR code at car park then approx 1.25mile walk to Gibson mill, lovely cafe with ice cream the best thing to have in the lovely sunny weather. From the internal seating area you can go through the book section and go into Gibson mill and look at the middle and top floor, including the views of the surrounding water and trees plus on the ground floor you can view the hydro power plant. If taking young children who require a stroller I highly recommend you do as little feet will get quickly tired. The weather was sunny and this helped make this a great visit and worth doing if your in the vicinity.

A lovely place for a walk for all abilities they have a few routes so something to suit all . Very scenic and picturesque with waterfall, Lakes,ponds etc. The cafe is open daily and the ice-cream there is amazing! Carparking is £5 free for national trust members. There is a little museum fun for kids

I visited Hardcastle Crags with my dog Patch and I was amazed by the beauty of this place. The crags are a series of rocky outcrops that offer stunning views of the wooded valley and the moorland. The trails are well-marked and easy to follow, and there are plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. My dog loved exploring the woods and running along the stream. There is also a historic mill that has been converted into a visitor centre and cafe. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they even had water bowls for dogs.

The cafe serves delicious, locally sourced food and drinks. I enjoyed some scones with jam & cream, had a nice coffee, with a cake. while my dog had some water and treats. The cafe is also eco-friendly, as it uses renewable energy sources. After lunch, I browsed through the second-hand bookshop and looked round the old mill where I found it really interesting.

One of the highlights of my visit was seeing the waterfalls that cascade down the valley. They were spectacular and soothing to watch. I took some photos and videos to capture their beauty. The waterfalls are a must-see for anyone who visits Hardcastle Crags.

I highly recommend Hardcastle Crags for anyone who loves nature and history. It is one of the best places to visit in West Yorkshire.

Enjoyed my weekend in this place with plenty of woodlands and waterfalls. Walked 4 hours on footpaths and explored beautiful forests and valleys there. You can walk to Gibson mill that is former cotton mill and sit and rest at the back of mill where is pond with ducks and dragonflies. The surrounded woodlands are plenty of birds and wild animals. The view point and the last destination of the walk is very spectacular and especially in autumn is rare to see the carpet of gold leaves and foliage of trees and down to the ground riverside. It was definitely worth to go to the last point as I did, and try seasonal bluebells in very warm October, that were a bit of surprise.

Really nice place for a walk in the forest, we followed the red route and then the purple route, some spectacular views from the crags, there is a cafe and bookshop at the mill. Parking is £5 per day, nt members are free. No charge for entry though. Lovely place very relaxing.

You need £5 to park. The riverside (Mill Walk), is lovely and a perfect place for families. If you're disabled the path down maybe OK, but there's lots of areas that make it more difficult.
However, stepping stones, a small wharf and a lovely stream make it idyllic.
After the mill, and up to The Craggs is a simple path (road), and there's a picnic area just before the climb up to The Craggs and the fantastic views, which I imagine, are much more interesting in winter when you can see through the trees.
I came up from the car park, hugging the top tree line (What Three Words: barks. Community. Energetic) and climbed up and out of the wood entering moorland and locating many paths before making my way back down to The Craggs, which I climbed up.
Just so interesting and a definite place to take small people, to give them a sense of adventure.
I hiked for 4 hours and didn't visit Gibson Mill for an ice cream but understand the visit is worth it ???? A perfect day!
